While the actual changes will be revealed only when the official notification comes, here are some minor changes in the examination structure which can likely to be introduced:

  • The difficulty level of QA (Quantitative Aptitude) section may be decreased. This can be done to encourage non-engineering students’ participation.
  • This year’s exam can also see increase in the number of exam centres.

These changes might be done in context with the aim of increasing diversity at IIMs.

One change what students are expecting is no sectional time limit. Till last year, students don’t have ability to navigate between different sections. This according to the students restricts them from attempting more accurate answers.

A meeting was held on 26 September, 2017 where the Directors of the IIMs and the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar were present. The minister announced that the intake capacity of IIMs to be increased to 20,000. Earlier it was approximately 10,000. However, the exact seat matrix and intake capacity will come out after CAT 2017 exam.
