Candidates are required to clear an English language exam for studying in a foreign country. There are different exams and candidates can select the same as per his/ her convenience and requirement. The exams are as under:

GRE - Graduate Record Examinations

GRE is one of the world’s largest assessment programmes conducted for graduates. Those looking forward to pursuing Master’s or Doctoral courses from a foreign university can appear for the test.  It tests the candidate’s analytical writing, quantitative ability, and verbal reasoning skills. The test score is accepted at thousands of universities and colleges in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Western Europe.

SAT - Scholastic Assessment Test

Scholastic Assessment Test is to be taken by the candidates seeking admission in the undergraduate courses. The exam aims at evaluating the written, verbal, and mathematical skills of the candidates. Those who wish to pursue undergraduate courses in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, can appear for the exam. In 2018, the College Board introduced the India Higher Education Alliance with a number of educational institutes. The universities under the alliance will be accepting the SAT score for admission of Indian students.

IELTS - International English Language Testing System

IELTS score is accepted for work, study, and migration to English-speaking countries viz. New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the US, the UK. IELTS score is accepted by more than 10,000 universities, employers, schools, and immigration bodies. In the UK and Australia, 100% of universities accept the IELTS score for admission of foreign students. The exam tests the candidates on their Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking skills in the English language.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL is the most popular exam for admission to American and Canadian schools and universities for those who are from outside the countries. It is the most preferred exam for international studies. The registration process remains open throughout the year and candidates can register online, via mobile phone, mail, or in person. Candidates must register at least two days before the test. However, it is advised to apply a month before the exam date.

Exam Purpose - Higher studies in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, the US, and across Asia and Europe.

PTE - Pearson Test of English Academics

The PTE exam can be taken by those who want to prove their English language proficiency for moving to an English-speaking country for work or study. The exam is different from other English tests as the scores are released within 2 business days because the exam is completely computer-based. Also, the test evaluates only the day-to-day understanding and usage of the English language rather than focusing on high-level English. PTE score is accepted by universities and educational institutes in major English-speaking countries. The score is also used for Visa purposes by the government of Australia and New Zealand.

GMAT - Graduate Management Admission Test

GMAT is the most widely accepted exam for management admissions across the globe. As per GMAC, 9 out of 10 management admissions are done through GMAT. The exam tests the candidates on his/ her analytical writing, reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning skills. There is not any official statement for eligibility conditions but candidates must have completed graduation (any stream) for admission to a management course.
