SCRA (Special Class Railway Apprentice) is an entrance exam, which is held by UPSC for giving jobs to candidates in Railway Department. SCRA 2018-2019 Application Form

Candidates are required to fill the SCRA 2019 Online Application Form before the last date. What they need to do is to follow the following steps:

  • Upload the photocopies of the documents and passport size photo along with signature

SCRA 2019 Application Fee

UPSC SCRA Exam 2019 Pattern & Syllabus

The syllabus of UPSC SCRA Exam 2019 covers the syllabi of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of 12th standard of any board.

Exam pattern

  • There will be multiple choice questions and candidates will be required to tick the right answer.
  • There will be negative marking in the exam, so candidates are advised not to answer a question in case they do not know its answer.
  • The exam will be conducted offline and candidates will be allowed to use black ball pen. Ballpoint pen is not allowed.
  • The examination will comprise two sections—written examination and physical science.
  • The written exam will be of 600 marks and the questions will be asked from English, Psychology and General knowledge. The second section will cover questions from Mathematics and Physical Science. This section will be of 200 marks.
  • The duration of these two papers will be 2 hours.

UPSC SCRA Exam 2019 Eligibility


Candidates should be a citizen of India. Apart from this, those who migrated to India from Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zaire, Zambia, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Kenya and Burma before Jan 01, 1962 with an intention of settling in India on permanent basis are also eligible for this exam.


  • In terms of age, candidates applying for the UPSC SCRA Exam 2019 should be from 17 to 21 years of age as calculated on 1st January 2019.
  • There is a relaxation of 5 years for SC and ST category candidates.
  • For OBC candidates, there will be a relaxation of 3 years.
  • There will be a relaxation of 5 years for ex-servicemen and military personnel

Education Qualification

  • With regard to educational qualification, candidates should have passed the intermediate examination from any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Candidates should have scored at least 45% in the intermediate examination
  • Those, who have passed the first year of graduation (3 year degree course) with the second division, are also eligible for this exam.

Candidates, who have cleared Pre-Engineering with at least II division, can also appear at SCRA 2019 examination.

Other Details

SCRA 2019 Admit Card

The Railway Recruitment Board will make the admit card available to candidates through online mode. They can easily download it from the official website. They need to go through the following steps:

  • Go to the official website of the Railway Recruitment Board—
  • Click on the option ‘SCRA 2019 Admit Card’
  • A form will appear on the screen
  • Enter your registration ID and date of birth and click on it
  • The admit card will appear on the screen
  • Get a print out of it

They are advised to keep the admit card safe till the declaration of the result. They have to carry it to the examination hall along with any identity proof such as aadhaar card, pan card, driving license etc.  They should bear in mind that they will not be allowed entry inside the examination hall without the admit card.

The Admit Card will contain the following information:

  • Candidates’ names and SCRA 2019 roll numbers
  • Their local addresses
  • Name of the examination centre
  • Entry time of the examination hall

Preparation tips for the UPSC SCRA Exam 2019

As the syllabus for the UPSC SCRA Exam 2019 has been explained above, candidates need not refer to any reference books. They should have the thorough preparation of 12th level’s Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In order to take the exam confidently, they should try solving the papers of UPSC SCRA Exam of the last five years. Commencement of training period

The training period will immediately begin after the selection process gets over. Mechanical engineering training will start in an institute MOU with BIT located in Mesra, Ranchi. After successful training, candidates will get a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering and will immediately join as IRSME.
