Graduate Record Examination or commonly known as GRE is an exam for graduates and professionals to explore their options of higher studies at universities abroad and create more opportunities. The GRE score is accepted by more than 1,200 business schools around the world. Interested candidates can check out the country-wise list of institutes at the official website. The exam is taken by more than half a million applicants every year at more than 1,000 test centers in more than 160 countries. Candidates can pursue master’s, specialized master’s in business, MBA, J.D. or Doctoral degrees using the GRE score. The examination is conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). GRE 2022 Latest Update - ETS has announced the acceptance of the Aadhaar Card (w.e.f 1st July 2021) from Indian students if new/ renewed passports are not available for GRE registrations. It is done in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country. 

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, ETS has launched GRE General Test At Home for locations where the computer-based format was available earlier. It is not launched yet in Mainland China and Iran. In this mode, candidates can take the test on their own computer at their homes. They must meet the system requirements set by ETS. The computer will be monitored by a human proctor.

GRE 2022 Important Dates

In most regions of the world, the test is available throughout the year except for weekends and designated holidays. However, in Mainland China, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea, the test can be taken only three times per month.

It must be noted that the paper-based GRE General Test is conducted up to two times per year (February and November) in areas where computer-based testing is not available. The exam is generally conducted through a Computer-based mode.

Candidates need to register for the test after checking the availability of the test at their preferred test center. The important dates for GRE 2022 are as under:

- There are deadlines for application submission. Candidates must keep them in mind. The test can be taken once in 21 days and up to 5 times a year.

- Eczema can be scheduled online, through the mail, over the telephone, or through fax. The best option is through online registration.

- Please note that the GRE scores are sent to the selected colleges and universities 10 to 15 days after the test date. So, ensure that you take the test as such that the score reaches the institute well before the college’s application deadline.

Analytical Writing

This section tests the applicant’s ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and effective manner, support ideas with reasons and instances, examine claims and evidence, sustain a coherent, well-focused discussion, and control the elements of standard written English. Verbal Reasoning

Questions in the verbal reasoning section test the candidate's ability to analyze and draw conclusions, identify the author's perspective, distinguish major points from minor, summarise text, understand the structure of the text, and more. Topics included are:

GRE 2022 Eligibility

The exam conducting authority, ETS, has not prescribed any eligibility conditions for the exam. However, here are some of the criteria which are understood from the exam structure.

  • There is no age limit for appearing in the GRE General Test.
  • Candidates must have completed an undergraduate course.
  • Check with the university you are interested in for the requirement of GRE score. Not all universities and courses require a GRE score.

GRE 2022 Application Process

Candidates can register for the GRE exam 2022 through various modes. We have covered the detailed procedure of all the modes here. However, we suggest submitting the application forms online as it is the most convenient and quick approach.

GRE Registration Fee

The registration fee for all the modes is the same. Indian students are required to pay US $213 as a registration fee for the GRE General Test.

GRE 2022 Online Registration

  • Visit the official website for GRE at https://www.ets.org/gre and click on the 'ETS Account' button in the top right corner.
  • Now, click on the 'Create an Account' button for new registration.
  • Provide the details asked for.
  • Select the test centers and exam dates as per your preference.
  • After this, you will be redirected to the fee payment page.
  • Make the fee payment and take a print of the acknowledgment receipt.

Registration through Mail (Post)

  • Take a print of the application form.
  • Fill in all the details.
  • Send the application fee along with the requisite application fee to the following address:

A confirmation number, test center address, and reporting time will be emailed, mailed, or faxed.

Note: The application form must reach the above address three weeks prior to the earliest selected test date.

Phone Registration

  • Call the Regional Registration Center (RRC), Prometric, Gurgaon, Haryana on 91-124-4147700. The call must be made at least two business days prior to the selected test date.

Fax Registration

  • Print the application form and fill it with all the details.

The form must be received at least seven days prior to the first choice of the test date.

GRE General Result/ Score

The GRE General result is provided in candidates' respective accounts. The result is released in the form of scores. The GRE test scores will be uploaded to the candidate's GRE account 10 to 15 days after the test date. So, candidates can check their scores using their login credentials. The scores are sent to the selected universities within three weeks of the test date. Candidates are intimated about the GRE result via email message.

Considering the COVID-19 situation in the country, it is difficult to say if the GRE test centers will be operational for the year 2022. ETS has introduced the GRE at-home edition so that test-takers can appear for the exam from their home with all safety.

For the Analytical Writing section, the marking is done between 0-6 in half-point increments, for the Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning sections, the marking is done between 130-170 points with 1-point increments.

There is no range for a good score. Every university has its own GRE score cut-off. So, candidates are required to score equal to or higher than the set cut-off. A high GRE score will increase the chances of securing a seat in your preferred university.

The GRE score remains valid for five years from the day of the exam.
