SAT Exam

SAT or Scholastic Assessment Test, is an entrance exam for getting admission in undergraduate courses, particularly in the US and Canada. The exam is conducted by the College Board wherein candidates are evaluated on their written, verbal, and mathematical skills. Earlier, the exam was known as the Scholastic Aptitude Test. For those who are looking for admission in a particular subject course, the SAT subject test is conducted to examine a candidate's knowledge about that subject. SAT subject test is conducted for disciples such as Literature, Mathematics, History, Sciences, Foreign Languages.

SAT Latest Update - Due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, test centers are not operating at their full capacity. So, it is advised to check the availability of the test center during the registration process.

The exam has objective type questions and an essay section which is optional. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours and 50 minutes. If the candidates opt out of the essay section, the exam will be of 3 hours duration. Here is the section-wise distribution of the questions and sectional time duration for SAT.

SAT Syllabus (Updated)

SAT syllabus includes the curriculum studied till high school over the years. The topics under different sections are mentioned below.

Reading

Sentence completion, History/ Social Studies, Sciences, US and World Literature

Writing & Language

Expression of ideas and standard English conventions are tested through passages related to History/ Social Studies, Careers, Humanities, and Sciences.

Mathematics

Problem Solving, Algebra, Data Analysis, and Advanced Math.

Essay

Here candidates are required to evaluate an argument through analysis of evidence.



SAT Exam 2021 Eligibility

Age Limit

There is no minimum and maximum age limit criteria for the exam. However, previous trends have shown that the highest number of applications are received from the students of age group 17 to 19 years.

Educational Qualification

The exam conducting authority has not mentioned any specific educational requirement for the SAT exam. However, as the exam is for undergraduate courses, it is understood that candidates must have completed their high school level education.

Number of Attempts

There are no restrictions on the number of attempts.  The exam is conducted 5 times a year in India in March, May, August, October, and December.

ID Proof

Having a Passport or a valid Aadhaar card is one of the eligibility criteria for the SAT exam.


SAT Exam 2021 Application Process

Registrations for the SAT exam are accepted through the official website as well as through the mail. Both the processes are easy and the steps are mentioned below. It is advised to go with the online mode as it is easy and quick.

Steps for Online SAT Registration

  • Visit the official website of the College Board and click the registration link.
  • Complete the SAT application form by providing all personal and education details and create your profile on the website.
  • Select the test and test centre.
  • Upload your recent, clear photograph.
  • Pay the respective examination fee online and submit the application form.

Steps for Registration through Mail

Registration through the mail is applicable in the following situations. Other than this, candidates must submit the application through online mode only.

  1. If the candidate is younger than 13 years of age or is of 13 years.
  2. If the candidate wants to request a test center near his home.
  3. If the candidate is unable to upload a digital photograph
  4. If the candidate wants to pay the exam fee by money order or cheque.

Registration Process

  • Request an SAT student registration booklet from your education counsellor or school board.
  • Fill the application form available in the booklet through the steps provided in the booklet.
  • Mail the application form along with the money order/ cheque (inside the registration envelope) to the address provided in the booklet.

SAT Exam 2021-22 Admit Card

The SAT exam 2021 admit cards can be downloaded after the application process is successfully complete. Candidates can download the admit card using the login credentials from their profile. Candidates need to carry the following documents to the exam centre:

  • Admission Hall Ticket
  • Photo ID proof
  • 2 Pencils and Erasers
  • Basic calculator
  • Auto-injectors such as EpiPens

Carry all these items in a see-through bag. The admit card contains all the important instructions regarding the exam.

SAT Exam 2021 Result and Score

SAT result 2021 will be made available on the official website around four to five weeks after the test date. Candidates can check their scores online at the official website using their login ID and password. The result will be available in the form of scores. The range of the total score is from 400 to 1600. Anything more than 1200 is considered a good SAT score.

Question 1: Are the questions repeated in the SAT exam?

Yes. A few questions are repeated sometimes.

Question 2: Is there any negative marking in the exam?

No, there is no negative marking in the exam.

Question 3: Do students need to be pursuing or passing class 12th to take the SAT exam?

No. Candidates can appear for the exam irrespective of their age and class. However, the exam is mostly taken by students of class 11th and 12th.

Question 4: I am interested in taking admission to Cornell University. What SAT score is required for the same?

The range of SAT scores required is from 1110 to 1370.

Question 5: Will I be allowed to take the exam without any valid photo ID proof?

No. It is mandatory to carry a valid photo ID proof for taking the SAT exam.
