The National Fellowship programme for the PwD (Person with Disabilities) has been launched by the University Grants Commissions under the authority of the Government of India. It is a central government scheme which was launched with the name ‘National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (NFPwD)’. This programme aims to provide equal opportunities to the specially-able children and make them facilitating to pursue higher education like M. Phil or Ph. D.

UGC NFPwD Latest Updates: The University Grant Commission has reopened the application portal of the National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (NFPwD) for 2018-19 and 2019-20 sessions. Candidates must note that they are eligible to submit applications till 19th June 2020.

National Fellowship for Person with Disabilities (NFPwD) Benefits

The benefits of NFPwD are provided under both Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) schemes. The Amounts provided under the scheme are given in the table below.

Contingency (Humanities and Social Sciences including Arts, Fine Arts)

₹ 10,000 per year for the initial two years as JRF

₹ 20,500 per year for the remaining tenure as SRF

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

As per Government of India norms

Duration of the scheme:

  • The scholarship is available for 5 years for PhD + MPhil candidates, while for MPhil it is only for 2 years.
  • The candidates will receive the scholarship benefit as the JRF (Junior Research Fellow) for 2 years.
  • The benefits of the fellowship can be availed from the date of joining the research.
  • Selected students cannot avail of any other similar benefit either from the Central/ State government or any other educational bodies like UGC.

Eligibility Requirement for National Fellowship for Person with Disabilities

  1. Students belonging to Indian states can apply.
  2. An applicant must be belonging to the disability category defined by the Government of India.
  3. He/she should have should have pursue M. Phil or the Ph. D by finishing all the necessary formalities required for the admission.

  • Visit the official website, of UGC and click on the relevant link.
  • Start filling the NFPwD application form.
  • Attach all the asked documents including DOB certificate, mark sheets, caste certificate, and proof of physical disability.
  • Pay the application fee and click on “Submit” button to send your entries.
