JEE Main 2021 Slot Booking - Procedure to Book Exam City and Check Exam Shift & Date

Last Modified: 15 Apr 2024

The National Testing Agency (NTA) does not provide any provision for slot booking. And, since there is no slot booking facility, the exam date and timings for the JEE Main 2021 exam will be allotted randomly. However, for the exam centres, candidates will get an option to provide their preferences while filling the application forms. NTA make sure to allot the centres as per the preferences provided by the candidates.

Till the year 2018, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main was conducted through both offline and online modes. The online mode exam was conducted in multiple shifts on more than one day. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the then exam conducting authority, provides an option to the candidates for selecting the time date and shift for their online exam - the slot booking process. Read the complete article to know about the slot booking process.

JEE Main 2021 Slot Booking

Q: Will there be slot booking for JEE Main 2021 Exam?

No, NTA has discontinued the slot booking process from 2019 onwards. NTA will be allotting the exam slot to candidates on a random basis using computer software. Candidates will only be able to provide preferences for exam city while filling the application form.

The JEE Main 2021 registrations are over and there will be no slot booking. The new examination conducting authority, NTA, has scrapped the slot booking process from the year 2019 onwards. As per the new pattern, the candidate will not have the choice of selecting the exam slots. Instead, the exam conducting authority will be responsible for allocating the date, shift, and timing for the JEE Main exam. The allotment will be done through computer software on a random basis. A lot of other changes have also been introduced from the 2019 exam onwards which we will check out ahead in the article.

Changes Introduced from the JEE Main 2019 Exam

  • CBSE will no longer conduct the exam. The new examination authority will be the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • The exam will be conducted only through online mode.
  • The exam will be conducted twice a year i.e. in January and April. The result will be announced on the basis of the best of the two marks.
  • The exam will be held in two shifts and eight sittings.
  • Slot booking facility has been revoked. Exam timings and dates will be allotted by the NTA.

How to Get details about Exam Date and Timing?

Now that the slot booking facility has been closed, candidates can know about their exam date and shift through their admit cards. The admit cards for all the sessions will be released separately. The time and venue of the examination will be informed through the admit card. NTA will allocate the exam centres, date, and timing through computer software which will be mentioned on their admit cards.

Admit cards are the entry tickets for appearing in the JEE Main examination. Candidates can download the same from the official website. The dates for downloading the admit cards are announced online at the official NTA website. Here are the other important dates related to the exam and steps to access the admit card.

About JEE Main

The JEE Main exam is conducted every year as a national level engineering entrance exam for admission to B.E. and B.Tech. courses offered by 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 CFTIs. Those who pass JEE Main can appear for the JEE Advanced exam for admission to engineering courses offered by the 23 IITs. The exam is held for two papers - Paper-1 for B.Tech./B.E. and Paper-2 for B.Arch. courses. Institutes under state government and private institutes can also use JEE Main ranks for admissions. From 2021 onwards, the exam is being conducted online in four sessions. However, the result will be declared on the basis of marks of only one session (the best score.) With two sessions, candidates will get a chance to work on their mistakes and improve performance. It will also decrease the number of drop-years.
