JEE Main Counselling 2020 - JoSAA Seat Allotment Procedure

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has successfully concluded the Joint Entrance Examination Main for the year 2020 with the release of final scores. Qualified candidates are now required to appear for the counselling process for admission to their preferred colleges. The JEE Main 2020 counselling will be conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) through the online mode. JoSAA is responsible for the seat allocation process for admission into IITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs. Candidates need to register for the JEE Main counselling at the official website of JoSAA.
The counselling schedule of JoSAA 2020 has started from 06th October 2020 and will end on 09th November 2020. However, qualifiers of JEE Main 2020 Paper 2 will successfully submit their applications for Architecture Aptitude Test from 05th October 2020 onwards. JEE Main Counselling 2020 Latest Events & Notifications
The JEE Main Counselling 2020 is held under the guidance of Joint Seat Allocation Authority. JoSAA has released the counselling schedule, as per the notification released, the registration and choice filling process have commenced from 06th October 2020. Joint Seat Allocation Authority conducts the Counselling and Seat Allocation Process for 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs, and 28 Other-GFTIs. JEE Main 2020 and JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible to take part in JoSAA Counselling. Candidates can fill their JoSAA counselling form by visiting the official website i.e. josaa.nic.in. Candidates who will qualify the JEE Main or JEE Advanced have to register for JoSAA 2020 to participate in the counselling and admission process for various renowned engineering institutes across India. |

The JEE Main counselling will be conducted through two mock allotment rounds and seven main allotment rounds. The important dates for every round are as follows:

Note: Candidates should note that those appear and qualify JEE Main 2020 are eligible for seat allocation process in NIT+ system colleges (except IITs). However, shortlisted students belong to JEE Advanced 2020 will go for the seat allocation process in IITs and other participating Institutes.

JEE Main 2020 Counselling Procedure – Step By Step Guide
Candidates need to follow the steps mentioned below in order to participate in the counselling process:
- Online Registration
- Online Choice Filling and Locking
- Seat Allotment
- Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment
- Document Verification
- Final Reporting
Let’s have a detailed look at every stage of the counselling process.
Stage I - Online Registration
Candidates need to register at the official website of JoSAA in order to appear for the counselling process. Candidates can register using their roll number and password. The online registration link will be activated soon. Only registered candidates can appear for the JEE Main counselling.
Stage II - Online Choice Filling and Locking
Here the candidates need to provide their preference for engineering college and B.Tech. programmes. The seat allotment will be done on the basis of choices. It is important to lock the choices. Clear instructions are provided at the time of choice filling.
Stage III- Seat Allotment
Before the main seat allotment rounds, two mock allotments will be done to give an idea about the seat allotment and make better choices in the main rounds. After the mock seat allotment, the main rounds will be conducted.
Stage IV - Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment
Once the seat is allotted, candidates will have the options to freeze, float, slide, or withdraw the seat. Freeze means to accept the allotted seat, Float means to keep the allotted seat but looking for an upgrade, slide means to accept the seat but change the course in the same institute, and withdraw means to give up the seat (this can be done when the student has already accepted the seat. Withdrawal can be done by reporting at the allotted college before the last round of allotment.)
In order to confirm the seat, candidates need to pay the seat acceptance fee. The unreserved category candidates have to pay ₹ 45000/- and the reserved category ₹ 20,000/-.
Stage V - Document Verification
Candidates need to submit the documents for verification process online. The following documents need to be carried:
- 3 passport size photographs (same as the one uploaded during the application process)
- Photo ID card
- JoSAA seat allotment letter
- Proof of payment of seat acceptance fee
- Date of Birth proof
- JEE Main admit card
- JEE Main 2020 scorecard
- Class X and XII Marksheet
- Category certificate (if applicable)
Stage VI - Final Reporting
After the document verification process is over, candidates are required to report at the allotted college/institute and pay the remaining fee to confirm the admission.
This year, candidates need to complete this step via online mode only.
