JEE Main 2021 Counselling Procedure – Step By Step Guide

Candidates need to follow the steps mentioned below in order to participate in the counselling process:

  • Online Registration
  • Online Choice Filling and Locking
  • Seat Allotment
  • Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment
  • Document Verification
  • Final Reporting

Let’s have a detailed look at every stage of the counselling process.

Stage I - Online Registration

Candidates need to register at the official website of JoSAA in order to appear for the counselling process. Candidates can register using their roll number and password. The online registration link will be activated soon. Only registered candidates can appear for the JEE Main counselling.

Stage II - Online Choice Filling and Locking

Here the candidates need to provide their preference for engineering college and B.Tech. programmes. The seat allotment will be done on the basis of choices. It is important to lock the choices. Clear instructions are provided at the time of choice filling.

Stage III- Seat Allotment

Before the main seat allotment rounds, two mock allotments will be done to give an idea about the seat allotment and make better choices in the main rounds. After the mock seat allotment, the main rounds will be conducted.

Stage IV - Seat Acceptance and Fee Payment

Once the seat is allotted, candidates will have the options to freeze, float, slide, or withdraw the seat. Freeze means to accept the allotted seat, Float means to keep the allotted seat but looking for an upgrade, slide means to accept the seat but change the course in the same institute, and withdraw means to give up the seat (this can be done when the student has already accepted the seat. Withdrawal can be done by reporting at the allotted college before the last round of allotment.)

In order to confirm the seat, candidates need to pay the seat acceptance fee. The unreserved category candidates have to pay ₹ 45000/- and the reserved category ₹ 20,000/-.

Stage V - Document Verification

Candidates need to submit the documents for the verification process online. The following documents need to be carried:

  • 3 passport size photographs (same as the one uploaded during the application process)
  • Photo ID card
  • JoSAA seat allotment letter
  • Proof of payment of seat acceptance fee
  • Date of Birth proof
  • JEE Main admit card
  • JEE Main 2020 scorecard
  • Class X and XII Marksheet
  • Category certificate (if applicable)

Stage VI - Final Reporting

After the document verification process is over, candidates are required to report at the allotted college/institute and pay the remaining fee to confirm the admission.

This year, candidates need to complete this step via online mode only.
