Bhumi, a non-government organisation (NGO), has initiated the Bhumi Fellowship programme for young graduates to improve the quality of education in India. The fellowship is a two-year, paid, full-time program for graduates who want to improve the education quality in the country. The programme aims to achieve this by transforming schools. For the Bhumi Fellowship 2021, selected fellows will be deployed in a school in the suburb of Chennai by July 2021. Here are the complete details.

Bhumi Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

  • Candidates must be between 20 to 30 years of age.

Educational Qualification

  • Must have completed graduation (any stream).
  • Those in the final year of the bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply.

Other Requirements

  • Willing to commit two years full-time for the fellowship.
  • Passionate for transforming the education system.

Bhumi Fellowship Selection Process

The selection process involves:

  1. Shortlisting of applications
  2. Telephonic interview
  3. Final selection through Group Discussion and Personal Interview

Focus during the Fellowship

Candidates will be placed in a low-income school where the focus will be in:

  • Teaching Mathematics and English for a minimum of 12 to 15 hours every week
  • Supporting teachers and suggesting innovative teaching methods
  • Improving the leadership skills of headmasters/ school leaders
  • Identifying problems faced by the school/ community and design a sustainable solution

Opportunities After Fellowship Completion

After completing the fellowship programme, fellows will have the following opportunities:

  • Lead a cluster of 3 to 5 schools
  • Set up their own organisation
  • Transform the education system in their community
