The application process varies among the institutes. You can apply for the course online through the official website of the institute you are interested in or get the application form from the institute itself. Some institutes also make school visits to inform the students about the course. You can communicate with the representatives to know about the application process.

Selection Process -

The selection process for the Air Hostess course comprises of three stages – Written Examination, Group discussion (GD), and Interview.

The Written Examination comprises questions to test candidates’ intelligence, reasoning skills, numerical ability, and general awareness.

Candidates who qualify for the written examination are called for the GD round. Communication skills, teamwork qualities, and patience levels are tested in this round.

The Interview round is conducted for the final selection of the candidates. It analyses your personality and passion to work in the Aviation industry.

 This is the general; selection process. Some institutes might have variations in the selection process. All the recognized air hostess training institutes operate as per the guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). And, as per the DGCA guidelines, candidates will become eligible for admission only after qualifying for a written test and interview session.

Candidates who get through the selection process are required to undergo a training of a minimum of 6 months (the training duration might vary) before beginning the career as an air hostess.

Job Profile/Responsibilities

The job profile or responsibilities of an air hostess may vary as per the requirement of the flights. However, the basic responsibilities can be categorised as follows:

  • On Ground Responsibilities (before the flight)
  • In-Flight Responsibilities (during the flight)
  • Landing Responsibilities (after the flight)

On Ground Responsibilities

Before the passengers start boarding, an air hostess has to ensure the following things:

  • The emergency and the medical kits are available in the aircraft.
  • Toilets are clean and hygienic.
  • Sufficient meals and beverages are available on the plane.
  • Greeting passengers and checking their tickets.
  • Helping the passengers in loading the hand luggage in the overhead bins.
  • Checking that the passengers’ seat belts are on when the seatbelt sign is on.
  • Explaining the passengers about the usage of the emergency kit and emergency exit.
  • Informing the pilot when the plane is ready to take off.

In Flight Responsibilities

  • Make sure that the passengers have fastened their seatbelts
  • Serving meals and beverages to the passengers

Salary

The salary of an air hostess depends upon the type of the airline, the reputation of the airline, experience of the air hostess, etc. However, international airlines pay better salaries compared to domestic airlines. In domestic airlines, the initial salary of air-hostess ranges from ₹ 25,000 to ₹ 40,000 per month, which later on increases to ₹80, 000 to ₹ 1,25,000 with promotion and experience. Flight stewards also get the same salary. The initial salary on International flights starts from ₹ 50,000 per month. Please note that the salary figures are subject to change at the sole discretion of the authorities.
