Admission process for IGNOU Master in Women’s and Gender Studies Programme is open. Interested candidates can apply till 15th July.
28 June 2018: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started the admission process for its Master’s degree programme in Women’s and Gender Studies. Candidates can apply for the programmes till 15th July through the regional IGNOU centres.
About Master of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies (MAWGS)
The programme was first offered from July 2013 session under the School of Gender and Development Studies (SOGDS) at IGNOU. As per a statement by IGNOU, “the programme addresses the need to examine gender issues from an academic perspective through the dissemination of the growing body of knowledge in the areas of women's and gender studies.”
Eligibility
All candidates with an undergraduate degree (any discipline) with minimum 50% aggregate are eligible for the exam. There is no age limit for the exam.

Minimum – 2 years
Maximum – 5 years
MA in Women’s and Gender Studies – Programme Structure

Students have an option to exit the programme after the first year (two semesters) with a PG diploma in Women’s & Gender Studies. Those who continue the course will be awarded a full Master’s degree.
MA in Women’s and Gender Studies – Career Options
After completing the Master’s programme, candidates can look for career options in:

- Higher Education
- NGOs
- Government/private agencies
- Counselling firms
- Mass communication,
- Journalism,
- Writing/Editing
- All other fields that require an understanding of gender issues.
Those who are already employed in the related fields can also pursue the course for additional knowledge and better career opportunities. Admission deadline is 15 July without late fee.
