Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) is conducted for admission into undergraduate engineering courses (B.E./ B.Tech.) offered by the government colleges, government-aided colleges, and self-financing colleges in the state. TNEA Exam 2020 Pattern & Syllabus

The selection through the TNEA is done on the basis of candidates’ class 12th performance. A merit list is prepared based on the marks secured in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics. Every student receives a random allotment number which can be used in case of a tie. The merit list will be released on the official website.



TNEA Exam 2020 Eligibility

General Eligibility

  • Candidates who are from other states can also apply. Such candidates are required to show their Nativity Certificate (only in digital form - digitally signed e-certificate).
  • Children of Central government employees are also eligible.

Educational Criteria

  • Candidates must have passed class 12th level examination from schools in Tamil Nadu or any other recognised board with a minimum 50% marks (45% for OBC and 40% for SC/ST/MBA/SCA/DNC). Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics are compulsory subjects.

For Marine Engineering

Educational Qualification - Passed class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognised board with Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and English as main subjects.

Age Limit - The maximum age limit for the exam is 25 years.


TNEA Exam 2020 Application Process

The application process for the TNEA 2020 exam will begin from the first week of May 2020. Candidates are required to apply for the exam within the specified time. Here is the application process:

  • Visit the official website - https://tneaonline.in.
  • Click on the link for applying for the TNEA 2020 exam application.
  • Complete the registration process and you will receive the log-in details.
  • Now, again login for completing the application form.
  • On log-in, you will receive the random number allotted to you.
  • Complete the application form by providing your personal information, special reservation information, scholarship information, academic information, and more.
  • Make the application fee payment. The application fee details are:
    • For General category candidates - ₹ 500/-
    • For ST/SC/SCA category candidates - ₹ 250/-
    • For special reservation category - ₹ 100/-

The application fee can be paid through debit card/ credit card/ internet banking.

  • Submit the completed application form and take a print of the same.

Other Details

TNEA 2020 Cut Off

After the registration process is over, the University will release the cut-off for TNEA 2020. Separate cut-off marks will be released for different programmes and different colleges. Candidates must qualify the minimum cut-off of an institute for getting admission into various courses.

TNEA 2020 Merit List

The TNEA 2020 merit list will be released in the third week of June 2020. Candidates can check their overall rank and community rank at the official website. The counselling process will be conducted on the basis of merit list prepared by the University. Only those candidates who will be shortlisted through the merit listed will be eligible for appearing in the counselling process.

TNEA 2020 Counselling

TNEA 2020 counselling will be organised in the first week of July 2020. Candidates can take part in the counselling process only on the basis of their ranks. Candidates must download their call letter before appearing for the counselling. The counselling process will be conducted in five rounds. Candidates are required to choose their preferred college. Candidates must also carry the required documents for the document verification process.

TNEA 2020 Admission

After the counselling process, candidates will be allotted colleges on the basis of their ranks and preferences. Candidates must report at the allotted institute at the date and time mentioned on the allotment letter. Candidates must complete the admission process by submitting the required documents and paying the admission fee.
