National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts the NIFT Entrance Examination every year for admission to its undergraduate (Bachelor of Design, Bachelor of Fashion Technology) and post-graduate courses in Fashion. NIFT Exam 2019 Pattern & Syllabus

The examination process for admission to each course is different. Here is the detailed information:

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

The written examination comprises of Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). Those who qualify the written test are required to appear for the Situation Test.

Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech.)

The written examination comprises the General Ability Test (GAT).

Master of Design (M.Des.)

The written examination includes CAT and GAT followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI).

Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech.)

Admission is done on the basis of written exam comprising CAT and GAT followed by GD/PI round organized for candidates who qualify the written examination.

Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M.)

Selection process comprises GAT (written exam). Shortlisted candidates are called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/PI).

Creative Ability Test (CAT) Pattern

The creative test is conducted for both UG and PG programmes to test intuitive ability, innovative use of colour, illustration skills, and observation power in concept development and design ability.

Situation Test

The situation test evaluates candidate’s innovative ability and skills of handling material in a given situation. Candidates are required to create a model along with a short write-up explaining the concept. The model will be evaluated on innovation, creativity, space visualization, colour scheme, and overall presentation.

Group Discussion and Personal Interviews

Candidates who qualify the written examination are required to appear for the GD and PI round. GD includes 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on the case study assigned to the candidate where candidates are assessed on interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, communication skills, etc. The personal interview evaluates a candidate on general awareness, career orientation, aptitude, etc.


NIFT Latest Syllabus

Quantitative Ability: Addition, Division, Multiplication, Fractions, Rate of Interest, Percentage, Ration and Proportion, Work and Task, and Distance.

Communication Ability and English Comprehension: Reading comprehension, one-word substitution, words with corresponding meanings, synonyms, antonyms, singular, plural, correct spellings, idioms and phrases.

Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: Practice concepts related to lateral thinking, reasoning questions, etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Keep a track of currents events happening across the country and the world.

NIFT Exam 2019 Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for UG Course

  • A candidate should not be more than 23 years of age as on 1st October 2018. However, there is an age relaxation of 5 years for the Reserved Category candidates.
  • A candidate should have passed class 12th or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
  • A Diploma in Engineering (3 or 4 years) is required for Bachelor programme in Fashion Technology (B.FTech.).

Eligibility Criteria for PG Courses

  • To pursue M.Des. and MFM program, candidates should have done Graduation (any discipline) from a recognised University or three years UG Diploma from NIFT/NID. Candidates in the final year of Graduation are also eligible to appear for the exam.
  • To pursue M.FTech, candidates should have done B.FTech. from NIFT or B. Tech/B.E. from a recognised University.
  • There is no age limit for the NIFT Exam.

NIFT Exam 2019 Application Process

Candidates can get the application form online from 22nd October to 28th December 2018. The application forms will be accepted online through the online mode. So, candidates must ensure that they fill the form online from the official website only.

Please note that all “entries in the application form shall be filled online English.”

How to Apply for NIFT 2019 Exam -

  • A candidate should visit the official website of the NIFT Admissions - https://applyadmission.net/NIFT2019/.
  • Click on ‘Fresh Candidate to create Log In (New Log In) button.
  • Enter the information – candidate’s name, DOB, category, email ID, programme type and programme name to complete the registration process.
  • Upon successful registration, a candidate will be given Registration id with Login ID and password.
  • Now, log-in into your account to complete the registration process.
  • Complete the remaining details, upload scanned images of your photograph and signature, and make fee payment.
  • Before submitting the application form, a candidate should check it to make corrections for any error.
  • Take a print out of the completed application form.

NIFT 2019 Admit Card

Candidates can get their admit card online from the official website of NIFT from 10th January 2019 onwards. The admit card contains the name, roll number, details of venue of the exam and the date and time of the exam. It is mandatory to bring the admit card at the examination centre. Without the admit card, candidates will not be allowed to take up the exam.

NIFT 2019 Result Declaration

The NIFT 2019 result will be announced through the official NIFT admission website. Candidates can check their result using their log-in ID and password. After the written test, the successful candidates are required to appear in the Situation Test/Group Discussion/ Interview. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained by the candidate in the written test and the group discussion. After that, candidates will be called for counselling where the allocation of seats will be made in different colleges.
