The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has postponed the Junior Engineer recruitment 2019-20 due to the COVID-19 situation. The new exam dates are to be announced soon. What is SSC JE exam?
SSC JE exam is a national-level exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for recruitment of Junior Engineer (Civil, electrical, Mechanical, and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for various departments/ organisations/ ministries under the Government of India.

SSC JE 2020-21 Notification -

SSC JE 2019-20 Eligibility
Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before filling the application form. Here are the details:
Qualification for SSC JE Exam
Candidates need to have an Engineering degree or diploma in the respective fields (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical). Some posts also require experience. Check out the official notification for detailed qualification.
Age Limit
The age limit for JE in different ministries is different. The age limit will be calculated as on 1st January 2020.
The age limit for JE in the Central Water Commission and Central Public Works Department is up to 32 years and in other departments/ ministries, it is up to 30 years.
Relaxation in the upper age limit is provided to reserved category candidates.
SSC JE Exam Pattern
SSC JE exam consists of two papers. Paper-I is a Computer Based Examination while Paper-II is a written examination. The pattern for both the papers is as under:

SSC JE Paper-2 Exam Pattern
Paper-2 will descriptive. Candidates are required to write Paper-2 either in Hindi or in English. If the paper is written half in Hindi and half in English, zero marks will be awarded. Here are the subjects covered in the exam:

SSC JE Exam Negative Marks
Each question in Paper-1 and Paper-2 will be of 1 mark. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-1 and no negative marking in Paper-2.

SSC JE Application Process
Candidates can apply for the SSC JE exam online. SSC follows a one-time registration facility where candidates need to register only once at the SSC website. After the registration candidates can apply for any exam conducted by SSC. Here are the steps to be followed:
- Go to SSC’s official website - ssc.nic.in.
- If you haven’t registered at the SSC’s website, go fo new registration and complete the process.
- After the one-time registration, you need to log-in using your registration ID and password to complete the SSC JE application form.
- Provide your choices for the exam centers, make fee payment, and take a print of the confirmation page.
Application Fee
The application fee for SSC JE can be paid through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or in Cash at any SBI branch using the challan. The application fee is as under:

How to change the SSC JE exam centre?
Candidates are provided with the option to choose three examination centers within a region for the exam. They are required to provide priority for each center. Candidates must select the examination centers carefully. No provision is provided to make changes in the examination center. Thus, candidates can not change the examination center at any stage of the examination under any circumstances.
As per the official notification; “The Commission will endeavour to accommodate the candidates in centres opted by them. However, the Commission reserves the right to cancel any Centre and ask the candidates of that centre to appear from another centre. Commission also reserves the right to divert candidates of any centre to some other Centre to take the examination.”
SSC JE Admit Card
The SSC JE admit cards are released separately for both the Tiers. The facility to download the admit cards is activated one week before the exam. Candidates can download the same from the respective websites of regional SSC. The admit cards can be downloaded using the login details. Along with the admit card, it is mandatory to carry an original Photo-ID proof and two passport size coloured photographs to the examination hall.

- Know the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Go through the SSC JE syllabus and exam pattern. Categorise the topics in the syllabus according to their difficulty level. Then you can plan on covering the topics accordingly. Exam pattern will help in understanding the time, number of questions, and marking scheme of the exam.
- Create a Time-Table: Make a time-table which fits into your schedule. You need to follow the time-table daily so make sure it is not too rigid. Allocate more time for difficult topics. Keep breaks in-between the study sessions.

Apart from the preparation tips, some crucial points to keep in mind to crack the SSC JE exam are:
- For the technical section, have in-depth knowledge of your respective subjects (civil, mechanical, electrical, and quantity surveying). Make sure that the formula-based concepts are strong. All the formula should be on fingertips. You can write all the formula on a chart paper and stick it near your study place. Keep going through the formula whenever you see the chart.
- For the non-technical section, candidates should focus on the current affairs of the last six months.
- For Paper-2, work on your writing skills. The best way is to pick topics from previous years’ question paper and practice.
- Along with the exam preparation, your attitude on the exam day also decides on whether you will get through or not. We suggest to stay calm during the exam and answer every question rationally. If you find any question difficulty, don’t waste time on that and don’t lose your focus because of one question.
SSC JE Exam Result
The list of qualified candidates is released after each Tier of the examination. The candidates who make it to the list of the qualified candidates are required to appear for the next Tier. After the final result is declared, the scorecards will be uploaded at the official website containing the marks and ranks secured by the candidates.
