SSC JE Exam

The Staff Selection Commission organizes SSC JE exam for the post of Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical) in various Central government organizations such as Central Water Commission, Central Public Works Department, Department of Post, Military Engineering Services, National Technical Research Organisation, Border Roads Organisation, and more. SSC works under the Government of India and recruits staff for various posts in Ministries and Departments of Government of India.

SSC JE Exam 2018 Pattern & Syllabus

SSC JE exam pattern consists of two stages – Paper 1 (Computer Based Test) and Paper 2 (Written Exam). Candidates who qualify the CBT will be called for the descriptive paper. Let’s have a detailed look at the SSC JE exam pattern:

SSC JE Paper 1:

Objective type questions are included in the paper from areas such as General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning, and General Engineering (Civil and Structural/Electrical/Mechanical). In general engineering section, candidates have to answer the questions related to their subject (the subject selected while filling the application form.)

Exam mode – Online

Total Marks – 200

Total Duration – 2 hours

Negative Marks – 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

SSC JE Paper 2:

Conventional type questions are included in the paper. It consists of three sections – Part A (Civil & Structural), Part B (Electrical), and Part C (Mechanical). Candidates have to select from these parts according to the post they have applied for.

Exam mode – Offline

Total Marks – 300

Total Duration – 3 hours

Negative Marking – Not applicable

The final result will be declared on the basis of candidate’s performance in both paper 1 and 2.


SSC JE Exam 2018 Eligibility

Nationality

Candidate must be either:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement in India or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Zaire, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Ethiopia and Vietnam with intention of permanent settlement in India.

Educational Qualification -

  • For SSC JE (Civil)

3 years diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent course from a recognised institute. 2 years experience in civil construction is desirable for some posts.

  • For SSC JE (Electrical & Mechanical)

3 years diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Mechanical) from a recognised university. 2 years experience in electrical or mechanical engineering is desirable.


SSC JE Exam 2018 Application Process

SSC JE application process is self-explanatory. Candidates are required to apply for the exam only through the official website.

  • Go to www.ssc.nic.in or www.ssconline.nic.in.
  • Click on the “Apply” tab on the home-page.
  • A pop-up window will appear, select “JE” tab and click on the link to apply online.
  • If you are applying for the SSC recruitment process for the first time, click on new registration. Enter details asked for to complete the registration process. A registration ID and password will be generated. Note them down and keep safe.
  • Using the registration Id and password, log-in to complete the form. Enter all the details asked for in the specified fields, upload photograph and signature, select exam cities, choose for the post you want to apply, and pay the application fee to complete the process.
  • Once the application process is complete, take print out of the confirmation page.

Application Fee

Candidates belonging to the unreserved category are required to pay ₹ 100/- while female candidates, ex-servicemen, and candidates belonging to other reserved categories are exempted from application fee payment.

Application fee can be paid through both offline (e-challan) and online (net banking/credit or debit card) mode of payment.


Other Details

SSC JE Exam 2018 Admit Cards:

SSC JE Admit Card will be released on the official SSC website 10-15 days before the examination. Candidates can download the admit card through their registration ID and password. Download and take a printout of the admit card. It is necessary to carry the admit card to the examination venue in order to participate in the exam.

SSC JE Exam Result:

SSC JE paper 1 result will be declared in the month of January 2019 while the final result will be declared in the month of March/April 2019. The Commission will declare the result on the official website.
