SSC Constable GD Exam

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts various recruitment examinations for filing different posts in the Government departments/ ministries. In this article, we will be discussing one such examination i.e. Constable General Duty commonly known as SSC GD exam. SSC Constable GD posts are announced in:

  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
  • Secretariat Security Force (SSF)
  • Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  • National Investigation Agency (NIA)
  • Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles

SSC has announced a total of 58,373 (revised) vacancies for the SSC GD post for the year 2019. The recruitment process comprises of a Computer Based Test (CBT) followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Medical Exam. SSC GD 2019 Latest Update: The Commission has released the admit card for the PST/ PET 2019 exam on 30th July 2019. The exam will tentatively be conducted in August/ September. The CBT for the SSC Constable GD exam was conducted from 11th February to 11th March 2019.

SSC Constable GD Exam 2018-19 Pattern & Syllabus

The SSC GD Constable exam comprises of the following selection process:

  • Computer Based Examination (CBE)
  • Physical Efficiency Test / Physical Standard Test (PET/ PST)
  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

Phase I - Computer Based Examination (CBE)

The CBT comprises of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from the following sections:

The question paper will be in English or Hindi. Each question will be of 1 mark.

Phase II - Physical Efficiency Test / Physical Standard Test (PET/ PST)

Candidates who qualify the CBE stage are required to appear for the PET/ PST phase. The exam will be conducted at the examination centres finalised by the CAPFs. Here are the details of the physical tests:

Candidates are required to take Haemoglobin, Medical Test (X-Ray) chest-PA view, Urine routine/ microscopic, Blood Pressure examination.

Candidates must not have flat foot, squint in eyes, knock knee, or varicose.

Tattoo with religious names, figures, and symbols are permitted. Tattoos marked on the inner aspect of the forearm (only left), dorsum of the hands, or non-saluting limb are allowed. The tattoo must be less than 1/4th of the body part.

General Knowledge and General Awareness

History, Sports, Culture, Economic scene, Geography, General polity, Indian Constitution, and Scientific research, etc.

Elementary Mathematics

Number Systems,, Computation of Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions and relationship between Numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Interest, Averages, Profit and Loss, Mensuration, Discount, Ratio and Time, Time and Distance, Time and Work, etc.

English/ Hindi

Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/Detecting Mis-spelt words, Improvement of Sentences, Idioms & Phrases, One Word Substitution, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech, Parajumbles, Cloze Passage, Reading Comprehension. Same topics will be covered in Hindi language too.

SSC Constable GD Exam 2018-19 Eligibility

Nationality / Citizenship

The candidate must be an Indian citizen. As the vacancies are state/ UT-wise, the candidates are required to submit the domicile for his/her state/ UT.

Age Limit

The minimum age limit for the exam is 18 years and the maximum is 23 years as on 1st August 2018. In other words, the candidate should not have been born before 2nd August 1995 and after 2nd August 2000. Only the matriculation certificate will be considered as the date of birth proof. Relaxation in the upper age limit will be provided to reserved category candidates:

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed class 10th/ Matriculation from a recognised board/ University. Please note that candidates who haven’t completed their qualification as on 1st August 2018 will not be eligible to apply for the exam.

SSC Constable GD Exam 2018-19 Application Process

The SSC GD Constable application forms were available at the official website from 17th August to 17th September 2018. Candidates were able to fill the application forms through the official website. Here are the steps to apply for the examination:

How to Apply for the SSC GD Exam 2018-19?

  • Go to the official website -
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ button at the top.
  • Select the ‘Constable-GD’ tab and click on the link to apply.
  • Start with the registration for the exam if you are applying for an SSC exam for the first time. However, if you have applied for any SSC exam before, use your ID and password to log-in.
  • Complete the registration process, application process carefully, and upload the scanned images of photograph and signature. The photograph must be between 4 KB to 201 KB and signature must be between 1 KB to 12 KB. The scanned images must be clear.

Other Details

SSC GD Constable 2018-19 Admit Card

Candidates who have successfully registered for the exam will be able to download the admit card from the official website. Candidates can use their registration ID and password to download the admit card. Different admit cards will be released for the CBE and PET examination. Admit cards can be downloaded from the official regional RRBs’ website.

Candidates need to carry the SSC GD Constable admit card to the examination center for appearing in the examination. Please keep the admit card safe till the examination process gets over.

SSC GD Constable Answer Keys 2018-19

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) uploads the SSC GD Constable answer key at the official website a few months after the computer-based examination. The answer key will help the candidates in calculating their estimated scores.

SSC GD Constable Cut-Off 2018-19

Candidates who secure the following minimum eligibility criteria in the Computer Based Examination (CBE), will pass the exam. The cut-off details are as under:

  • For General and Ex-servicemen: 35%
  • For  OBC/ SC/ ST: 33%

SSC GD Constable Results

The SSC GD constable result will be available at the official SSC website. Candidates can check their result through their registered IDs. The result will be declared on the basis of candidate’s performance in the Computer Based Test. The PET/PST and the Medical examination will be of qualifying nature.
