Sikkim Manipal University

The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technologies have been renamed as the Sikkim Manipal University. The university was an outcome of the agreement between the Government of Sikkim and Manipal Pai Foundation. The university was established with an aim to provide higher education to the students of Sikkim and facilitate healthcare services. It was established in 1995 by an act of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

The Sikkim Manipal University has the distinction of functioning under the PPP (Public Private Partnership). It has two campuses for Medical and Technology. Every year, it receives an annual grant of ₹ 2.5 Crore from the Government of Sikkim.

The university is approved under the UGC Act 1956. All technical and medical courses that are taught by the university are approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), MCI (Medical Council of India), Nursing Council of India, Indian Council of Physiotherapy, including Distant Education Council.

The SMU DE (Sikkim Manipal University Distant Education) provides an opportunity to students to pursue higher education through distant learning. It offers various courses on the Bachelors, Masters, Certificate and Super speciality level like MBA, BBA, MCA, IT, B. Sc., M.Sc. etc. The university delivers quality education to students across the globe. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified university which enrols more than 5 lakhs students under its distant learning programme. Sikkim Manipal University 2018 Pattern & Syllabus

  • Students can get admission in most of the SMU DE courses on the basis of their merit score. For some of the courses, they are required to appear in the SMU Entrance Exam.
  • The SMU DE Entrance Exam question paper contains objective type questions.
  • The question paper is divided into different sections.
  • Some sections contain match-the-following type questions.
  • The objective type questions contain 1 mark.
  • The match-the-following type contains 2 marks and MCQ type questions contain 3 marks.

Evaluation System

The SMU follows ‘Grading System’ to evaluate candidate’s performance.

Sikkim Manipal University 2018 Application Process

  • Students can apply for admission either online or offline. They can download SMU 2018 application form online. The completed application form should be sent along with a Demand Draft of ₹ 1600. It includes both, the charges for the Prospectus (₹ 600) and Examination Fee (₹ 1000).
  • If a student collects it from the Bank, then he/ she is required to send a Demand Draft of ₹ 1000 only for the examination fee.

SMU 2018 Online Application Process  

  • The applicant should visit the SMU official website.
  • It is a 3 step process, namely – Registration by providing basic information; Filling-in the Application form including educational qualification details, and Paying the application fee as per the course.
  • In the 1st stage of the application, a student should get registered through mobile and email. A link will be sent to the applicant’s email. The applicant should click on the link for successful registration.
  • Upon successful registration, an Application Number and Password will be sent to the applicant’s mobile.
  • The candidate should fill in all the specified columns of the application form.
  • He/ she should pay the application fee through the ‘Payment Gateway’ specified.
  • Then the applicant should click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education 2018: Admit Card

  • Applicants can download their Admit Card from the official website of the SMU by clicking on the link www.smu.edu.in.
  • The Admit Cards are issued two to three weeks before the date of the entrance exam.
  • They should click on the above-given link. It will take them to the SMU Homepage.
  • Here, they should find the ‘News and Announcement’ section where they will get the ‘Admit Card Download’ option.
  • They are asked to fill the ‘Login Form’ to download the Admit Card. It should be filled with all required details.
  • Candidates should download the admit card and take its print copy.
  • It is important to carry the admit card at the examination centres. Without admit card, no students will be allowed to appear in the exam.

Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education 2018: Result

Students can check their results online on the official website of the Sikkim Manipal University. They should click on the section ‘New Announcements’. If the results are announced, then it will be seen under this section. By entering their Name, Roll Number and Date of Birth, students can see their results. Those candidates who qualify this exam are called for counselling. During counselling, students are interviewed and are allocated course as per their choice and merit-rank.

Q. What is the refund policy of the university?

The university refunds the application fee of the rejected students. Also, in such cases where a student has paid the application fee in excess, it will be refunded or adjusted during the next semester. 

Q. If an applicant can cancel his/ her admission in the SMU?

No, after the approval of admission, it is not possible to apply for cancellation and get back the admission fee. However, in cases where a student gets admission in any other university and could not continue studies simultaneously at the SMU then he/ she can apply for the cancellation of admission.

Q. If a candidate can change the course of his/ her study after receiving approval for admission?

Yes, candidates can apply for the change of the course programme. They should send the new application along with the fee of ₹ 1000 to the university before the last date of submission.

Q. How much time is given to students after granting Provisional admission to submit documents?

Students must submit all required documents to the SMU within the given time-period. In case, the candidate fails to submit the documents within the stipulated time; the Provisional Admission might get cancelled.
