Every year, the Indian Institute of Technology conducts the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) for admission into B.Arch program. The B.Arch program is offered only at the IIT Kharagpur, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, and IIT Roorkee campuses. Candidates must note that admission to the B.Arch course is offered based on the JEE Advanced All India Ranks. However, it is mandatory for the candidates to pass the AAT exam. The exam is conducted a few days after the JEE Advanced result is announced. Note - To appear in the AAT exam, it is mandatory to qualify for the JEE Advanced exam. Candidates need to separately register for the AAT exam after the JEE Advanced result.

JEE Advanced AAT 2022 will be held at 23 IITs across the country. The exam would be held in the morning session, i.e. from 9 AM to 12 PM. Candidates who are to appear for the examination will be required to report to the concerned exam center by 8:30 AM in the morning.

AAT 2022 Exam Pattern

The AAT exam will be conducted through pen-and-paper-based mode. The exam will cover the following section:

  • Imagination and Aesthetic Sensitivity
  • Three Dimensional Perception
  • Geometrical Drawing
  • Freehand Drawing
  • Architectural Awareness

The exam will be of 3 hours duration. The medium of the examination will be English.

JEE Advanced AAT 2022 Syllabus

The syllabus for the Architecture Aptitude Test is as under:

Freehand Drawing

Simple drawing depicting the total object in its right form and proportion, relative location and details of its component parts in an appropriate scale, surface texture. Common domestic or day-to-day life usable objects like equipment, furniture, etc. from memory.

Geometrical Drawing

Exercises in geometrical drawing containing triangles, lines, circles, angles, quadrilaterals, polygons, etc. Study of plan (top view), elevation (front or side views) of simple solid objects like cones, cubes, cylinders, prisms, splayed surface holders, etc.

Three-Dimensional Perception

Appreciation and understanding of 3-dimensional forms with building elements, volume, color, and orientation. Visualization through structuring objects in memory.

Imagination and Aesthetic Sensitivity

Composition exercise with given elements. Creativity checks through an innovative uncommon test with familiar objects. Context mapping. Sense of color grouping or application.

Architectural Awareness

General interest and awareness of famous architectural creations – both national and international, places and personalities (architects, designers, etc.) in the related domain.

JEE Advanced (AAT) Exam 2022 Eligibility

Candidates are required to meet the eligibility criteria set by the institutes for the B.Arch program. Those who don’t meet any of the eligibility conditions will be disqualified. Here are the eligibility conditions:

  • Candidates should have qualified for the JEE Advanced 2022 exam.
  • Performance in class XII will be considered for eligibility. Check out the performance criteria as outlined by the IITs.

JEE Advanced (AAT) Exam 2022 Application Process

The AAT application process will begin right after the announcement of JEE Advanced result 2022. Candidates are required to register for the exam separately. Candidates must apply for the exam within the given time. The application process will be online and candidates must submit the application within the given time. Here are the steps to fill out the application form:

  • Visit the official website.
  • Click on the link for the AAT application form.
  • Enter your JEE Advanced 2022 registration number, date of birth, email address, and mobile number.
  • The question will be asked if you are interested in the AAT 2022 exam. Select ‘Yes’ from the options.
  • The exam centers list will be displayed. Select your preference.
  • Fill in all the required details.
  • Check all the details carefully and submit the application form.

Candidates are not required to pay the additional application fee for the AAT exam. JEE Advanced application fee will be applicable.

Candidates are provided with the option to fill the exam center while filling the application form. The exam will be conducted at the following centers:

AAT Admit Card 2022

No separate admit card will be issued for the AAT exam. The JEE Advanced 2022 admit card will be accepted for the AAT exam. Candidates should carry the admit card to the examination hall. Original photo ID proof has to be carried to the examination hall along with the admit card. Details of the allotted exam center and timings will be notified to the candidates on their registered mobile number or email ID.

AAT 2022 Result

The result of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT 2022) can be checked through the official website. The result along with the cut-off for admissions to IITs will be available on the official website. The candidates who will clear the entrance exam can apply for admission to B.Arch courses offered at IIT Kharagpur and Roorkee. Candidates can check their scores and qualifying status in the result. No separate rank list will be prepared for the AAT exam. Seat allotment will be done based on the JEE Advanced ranking.

AAT 2022 Cut-Off

The Joint Implementation Committee of JEE Advanced 2022 will decide the AAT cut-off. The cut-off will be used as a screening process for the exam. No separate cut-off will be released for different categories. The cut-off will be determined based on various factors viz. Previous year’s cut-off, the difficulty level of the exam, the number of applicants, etc.

AAT Seat Allotment 2022

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the AAT 2022 seat allotment process. Candidates are required to register for the seat allotment process online. The seat will be allotted based on the rank, preference, category, and availability of seats. After the seat allotment, candidates are required to visit the allotted institute for document verification and admission formalities.

Last year, several changes were introduced including the scrapping of a cut-off for class 12 marks and one less round for counselling among several others. The number of counselling rounds has been reduced to six instead of seven earlier, to ensure timely admissions and beginning of classes.
