Government of India Prominent Women and Girls Scholarships

AICTE Pragati Scholarship Scheme

Aim of the scheme – To support technical education among girl students. Under the MHRD scholarship scheme, girl students enrolled in the AICTE approved technical college/institutions are provided financial support in pursuing the course.

Amount of the scheme

  • Tuition fee up to ₹ 30,000 is paid.
  • A living monthly stipend of ₹ 2,000 is paid for 10 months.
  • Total Number of the scholarship is - 4000

Eligibility

  • An applicant should have taken admission in the 1 year of the degree or diploma course in the AICTE approved colleges/ institutions.
  • It can be availed by 2 girls per family.
  • The annual family income should not be more than  8,00,000 per annum.
  • The reservation principle is applicable. It means for OBC – 27%; for SC - 15% and ST – 7.5% seats are reserved.

Begum Hazrat Mahal Scholarship Scheme

Aim of the scheme - To promote education among the meritorious girl students of the national minority communities. 

Amount of the scheme -

  • For Class 9th and 10th – Tuition fee benefits up to ₹ 10,000. It can be availed in 2 instalments of ₹ 5,000.
  • For Class 11th and 12th – Tuition fee up to ₹ 12,000. It can be availed in 2 instalments of ₹ 6,000.

Eligibility -

  • Applicants should be girl students belonging to any of the 6 minority communities, namely – Christian, Sikh, Muslim, Parsis, Jains, and Buddhists.
  • They should have a minimum score of 50% marks in the previous class exams.
  • The scholarship is given for Class 9th to Class 12 students.
  • The annual family income of the applicant should not exceed  2,00,000 per annum.

How to apply -

  • Through the Maulana Azad Education Foundation Scholarship portal i.e www.maef.nic.in. Applicants should fill the online application form and take its print copy. It should be sent to the MAEF office.
  • Applications are invited in October/ November.

CBSE Single Girl Child Scholarship scheme

Aim of the scheme – To encourage education among such girl students who are the single child of their parent and have passed Class 10th.

Amount of the scheme -

Selected beneficiaries are given ₹ 500 on the monthly basis for 2 years. The enhancement in the school tuition should not be more than 10%.

Eligibility -

  • Applicants should have passed Class 10th with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks or should have a CGPA of 6.2.
  • They should have taken admission in the Class 11th of a CBSE recognized schools which tuition-fee should not be more than ₹1,500.

How to apply -

Students can apply online for the scholarships scheme. They should enter their Roll Number and Certificate Number on the online application. All documents that are required should be attached to the application form.


Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship Scheme

Aim of the scheme – Swami Vivekananda was committed to the women’s education. Keeping his ideology, the government of India has started Swami Vivekananda Single Girl Child Scholarship Scheme to support the higher education of girl who is the single child of her parents.

Amount of the scheme -

  • The beneficiary student gets ₹ 25,000 on the monthly basis for the initial 2 years as JRF (Junior Research Fellow)
  • Those students who are promoted as the SRF (Senior Research Fellow) receive ₹ 28,000 on the monthly basis for 3 years.
  • They also receive contingency grant. For initial 2 years, candidates can avail ₹ 10,000 annually. Then they become eligible for ₹ 20,500 grant for rest of the 3 years.
  • An additional amount of ₹ 2,000 is also given for reader/escort assistance.

Eligibility -

  • Applicant should be the single girl child of her family.
  • She should have taken admission in the Ph. D program in Social Science research in any Indian college/university.

Lady  Meherbai D. Tata Education Trust Scholarship Scheme

Aim of the scheme – The Lady Meherbai scholarship is given by the Tata Trust. It aims at supporting such meritorious women who want to pursue their studies abroad.

Amount of the scheme -

The scholarship amount is adjustable to the amount charged by the abroad university.

Eligibility -

  • The applicant should be an Indian woman.
  • She should have a good education track record to get considered for the scholarship.
  • She should have obtained graduation degree from a recognised university or college and should have been invited for admission in the recognized university/ college abroad in UK, USA, or Europe.

How to apply -

  • Interested students can apply online through the Tata Education Trust.
  • Applications are invited usually in the month of the March/ April.

Postdoctoral Fellowship for Women

Aim of the scheme – This fellowship is given to unemployed Ph. D women. They are encouraged to fulfil their intellectual quest through this fellowship.

Amount of the scheme -

  • The total duration of the fellowship is 5 years.
  • The total number of the scholarship is 100.
  • For the initial 2 years, candidates are given ₹ 38,800 on the monthly basis.
  • For the rest 3 years, they can avail benefit up to ₹ 46,500 on the monthly basis.
  • They are eligible for availing any contingency grant up to ₹ 50,000 annually for the total duration of the fellowship.
  • They can also get reader/ escort assistance of ₹ 2,000 on the monthly basis.

Eligibility -

  • Applicant should be a woman candidate.
  • She should have obtained a Ph. D degree from a recognized college/ university.
  • The age of the applicant should not be more than 55 years of age. The reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) get an age relaxation of 5 years.

CBSE Udaan

Aim of the scheme – This scholarship scheme provides support to the meritorious girl students to do preparation for the competitive entrance exams.

Amount of the scheme -

  • This is a fully–funded scholarship scheme.
  • Under this scholarship, girl students are given admission fee, tuition-fee, and cost of study materials, tablets or other miscellaneous expenses to attend the coaching classes and lectures.
  • The scholarship benefit is extended for only those girl students who attend at least 75% Udaan classes.   

Eligibility -

  • Applicant should be an Indian girl student studying in Class 11th or Class 12th of Kendriya Vidyalaya/ Navodaya Vidyalaya/any government run school affiliated to any Central/ State board.
  • She should be studying in Class 11th in PCM stream.
  • She should have an aggregate score of minimum 70% marks in the Class 10th and not less than 80% marks in the Science and Mathematics subjects.
  • On the CGPA scale, she should have an overall score of 8 and 9 in the Science and Mathematics subjects.
  • Preference will be given to girl students belonging to the economically weaker section whose annual family income is not more than ₹ 6,00,000 per annum.

Women Scientist Scheme

Aim of the Scholarship – The Department of Science and Technology has started ‘Women Scientist Scheme’ to encourage such women scientists to pursue their career further and enter into a profession who have suffered break in their career due to the family and children responsibilities.

Benefits under the scholarship -

This scheme gives scholarships in 3 categories –

Women Scientist in ‘Group A’ – Those women applicants who have done Ph. D or equivalent in the Basic Sciences get ₹ 55,000 on monthly basis for a period of 3 years on submission of a viable proposal for a project. The total cost of the project should not exceed ₹ 30,00,000.

Women Scientist in ‘Group B’-

  • Those women applicants who have done M. Sc., M. Pharma, M.Tech, M. Phil or equivalent get ₹ 40,000 on the monthly basis for a period of 3 years on submission of a viable proposal for a project. The total cost of the project should not exceed ₹ 25,00,000.
  • The M. Sc/ B. Sc/ MBBS/ B. Tech or equivalent students in Basic or Applied Sciences get ₹ 30,000 on the monthly basis. The total cost of their project should not exceed ₹ 20,00,000.

 Women Scientist in ‘Group C’

  • Those women applicants who have done Ph. D or equivalent in Basic Sciences get ₹ 30,000 on the monthly basis for a period of 3 years on submission of a viable proposal for a project.
  • Students with M. Sc/ M. Pharma, M.Tech, M. Phil or equivalent degrees get ₹ 25,000 on the monthly basis.
  • Students with M. Sc. / B. Tech/ MBBS or equivalent degrees get ₹ 20,000 on the monthly basis.

Eligibility for the scholarship -

  • The applicant should be an unemployed woman candidate between 27 – 57 years of age.
  • The WOS – A (Women Scientist Scheme ‘A’) scholarship can be availed in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering and Technology fields
  • The WOS – B (Women Scientist Scheme ‘B’) scholarship can be availed for a research proposal related to the theme ‘Bringing development at the grass-root level through technology’.
  • The WOS – C (Women Scientist Scheme ‘C’) scholarship is given to women applicants in the form of training and recruitment in the field of IP₹ (Intellectual Property Rights) for record keeping, filing and maintenance works.

Kalpana Chawla Memorial Award

Aim of the scheme – The scholarship has been started by the Biyani Girls College in 2005. This scholarship aims at supporting meritorious girl students wishing to pursue technical education.

Amount of the scheme -

The award is distributed among the winner students in 4 categories. Each category has 21 winners.

  • 1st Prize21 winners are selected for the 1st prize under which they are given the opportunity to attend the NASA camp.
  • 2nd Prize – The next 21 students are given the cash prize of ₹ 1,00,000.
  • 3rd Prize – Another 21 students receive the cash prize of ₹ 50,000.
  • 4th Prize21 students are selected for the 4th prize (consolation prize) of ₹ 21,000.
  • The total number of the winners is 84.

Kiran Girls Scholarship Scheme

Aim of the scheme – To provide financial support to girl students who are pursuing B.E/ B. Tech in IT and Computer Science, or ENTC from the engineering colleges in Pune, Nagpur, Goa or Hyderabad.

Amount of the scheme -

  • Those students who are selected for this scholarship get ₹ 40,000 on the annual basis.
  • It can be availed till the completion of the engineering course.
  • The total number of the scholarship is 10.

Eligibility -

  • Applicant should have qualified Class 10th with minimum 60% marks and should have taken admission in the B. E/ B. Tech course.
  • Applicant’s annual family income should not be more than ₹ 3,50,000.

How to apply -

  • Interested candidates should visit the www.persistentfoundation.org to apply for the scholarship. They should fill-in the online application form before the last date of the application submission which is usually 31st January.
  • Online screening test comprising of aptitude and English language proficiency is conducted in the month of February.
  • The shortlisted applicants are called for the 1 level of interview. Out of which top 20 candidates are shortlisted for the final interview. In the final interview, best 10 candidates are selected for the scholarship.

Overseas Women Scholarships

Grace Hopper scholarship

Aim of the scheme – This scholarship is meant for graduate and undergraduate girl students of Computer Science, IT, MIS, Math, Physics, Human –computer interaction and Electrical Engineering.

Amount of the scheme -

  • Under this scholarship programme, students get the opportunity to attend the Conference in Computer Science which is attended by similar students and faculties from all over the world.
  • They are given Air-fares to attend the Conference. A travel stipend is also paid to meet the meal expenses, commutation charges to go to the Airport and other miscellaneous expenses.
  • Accommodation charges are paid.
  • The total number of the award is 657 (girl students) and 22 (faculty members).

Eligibility -

  • The applicant should be at least 18 years of age.
  • She should not have got graduated earlier than the date of the conference.
  • If the applicant has graduated earlier then she should have got enrolled in the M.S/ Computing programme on the Post-graduation level.

Google Anita Borg Scholarship

Aim of the Scholarship This scholarship has been renamed as the Google Women Tech-makers program. Under this scholarship programme, women candidates are encouraged to participate in computer science and computing programme. It aims at bringing about the gender equality in the technology field.

Benefit of the Scholarship -

  • Each beneficiary get around $10,000 to pursue their studies further.
  • They also receive an invitation to attend the Google Annual Retreat programme held in the Mountain View, California.

Eligibility of the Scholarship -

  • The applicant should be a female student.
  • Applicant should be enrolled in the computer science or computing engineering or any closely related undergraduate programme in the USA University.
  • The applicant should have a GPA score of at least 3.5 out of 4.

  • Opportunity to attend the Grace Hopper conference in India with the entry fee.

Aim of the Scholarship – This scholarship is given by the UN Office for disarmament in collaboration with the participating countries in the programme. Under this scholarship, 145 women candidates receive training in disarmament, establishing peace, and solving other development related issues.

Benefit under the scholarship -

  • Candidates get the UPEACE certificate issued by the UN-mandated University of Peace.
  • This scholarship covers tuition-fee, travel charges, accommodation and other miscellaneous charges for the training.
  • Total number of the scholarship is 140.

Santoor scholarship

Aim of the scholarship -

Wipro Cares, the not for profit arm of the Wipro gives Santoor scholarships to girl students from disadvantaged sections of the society. The girl students from Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh receive financial support under this scholarship to pursue higher education.

Benefits under the scholarship -

  • The selected beneficiary students are encouraged to get enrolled in the professional courses after Class 12th.
  • It covers the tuition – fee for the complete duration of their course (minimum 2 years or more).
  • Students can also avail any additional amount to meet education-related cost.
  • For degree or diploma course, the applicant living in the metropolitan city gets ₹ 36,000 tuition-fee annually otherwise ₹ 24,000.
