UGC Notified Universities To Conduct Semester Exams In July

UGC released new guidelines to universities for Academic Calendar 2019-20 and 2020-21. Check details.

The University Grant Commission has come up with the new guidelines for students belonging to new as well as old academic calendar at different universities/ colleges recognized by UGC. As per the released dates, the new academic session for new-batch 2020 may begin in universities from September and for already enrolled students it is August. The reason behind to take this decision is in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.  

What Official Notifications Says?

UGC, the national higher education regulator, notified regarding the pending examinations and other activities along with the academic calendar for the fresher’s seek admission in the next academic session and for students who are already enrolled. As per the notice, released at - ugc.nic.in “in view of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, the commission said the exams for final semester students be conducted in July”.

UGC Academic Calendar, Exam Guidelines – Important Points

  • For Intermediate students – they will be graded based on internal assessment of the present and previous semester. However, in states where the COVID-19 situation has been normalised, exams will be conducted there in July.
  • For Terminal Semester Students – exams will be placed in the month of July 2020.
  • A COVID-19 cell is launched in every university from where students will be notified with their queries regarding academic calendar and examinations.
  • In case the situation get worsen in the country related to coronavirus infection, there will be a 30 days summer vacation introduced from 01st June to 30th June.
  • The academic session 2020-21 will be commenced from 01st August 2020 for old students and for new entries, it will start from 01st September onwards.
  • The universities are advised to conduct the PhD and M. Phil. Viva -Voce Examinations over Video Conferencing by using the digital medium named as Google, Skype, Microsoft Technologies or any other reliable and mutually convenient technology.
  • Universities might follow a six-day week pattern and devise proforma to record travel or stay history of students and staff for the lockdown period.

The commission clarified that the released guidelines are advisory in nature and varsities may chalk out their own plan taking into consideration issues pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.
