UGC Granted Autonomy to 60 Higher Educational Institutions: Find complete List of Institutions

In a marked decision, UGC has granted autonomy to 60 institutions in higher education sector. Check out the complete list here.

21 March 2018:  The University Grants Commission has granted full autonomy to 60 higher educational institutions as announced by the minster of Human Resource Development, Shri prakash Javadekar on 20 March 2018.

He further said that; “the government is striving to introduce a liberalized regime in the education sector and emphasis is on linking autonomy with quality.”

The sixty institutes which have received full autonomy includes 52 Universities (5 central universities, 21 state universities, 24 deemed universities, and 2 private universities) and 08 autonomous colleges.

What does Autonomy mean?

Autonomy means:

For Universities

  • Universities will be free to start new courses, skill development programmes, off campus centres, research parks and other academic courses.
  • They will also have freedom to enroll foreign students, hire foreign faculty, and give incentives based emoluments to the faculty.
  • They will be free to enter into academic collaborations and run open distance learning courses.

For Autonomous Colleges

Autonomous colleges will be free to hold examinations, set their own syllabus, carry out evaluation, and declare results. Only the degree will be awarded by their respective Universities.
