The IIMC (Indian Institute of Mass Communication) is one of the well- known and reputed institute of mass communication. It was inaugurated in 1965 by Smt. Indira Gandhi, then serving as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting. Since then IIMC has been offering journalism course.

Eligibility for IIMC Exam

A candidate must fulfill certain criteria to become eligible for the exam.

Nationality – Only Indian candidates are eligible to appear for the exam.

Educational Qualifications –

  • The candidate should have done his Bachelor’s in any stream from any recognized University/ College or Institution.
  • Candidates who are in the final year are also eligible to apply for the exam.

Age Limit –

  • The General candidate should not be born earlier than August 1st, 1992. Candidates who are born on the aforesaid date and later are eligible to apply.
  • There is age relaxation given to SC/ST and OBC candidates.
  • Those candidates who belong to the OBC Category should not be born earlier than August 1st, 1989.
  • Similarly candidates who belong to the SC/ST Category should not be born earlier than August 1st, 1987.

IIMC Exam Admission Process

Candidates can apply for the IIMC 2017 Exam by both online and offline mode. The application form should be submitted before the due date. The application form should be submitted with application fee. In the online mode candidates can download their application form from the official website of the IIMC.

How To Apply Offline Mode

  • Candidate can purchase the application form from the IIMC campus in New Delhi or Dhenkanal.
  • The application form along with the prospectus can be purchased by paying Rs.200.
  • It should be noted that the candidate needs to submit separate application form for different courses. It means in one application form candidate cannot apply for various courses. For example application form for Radio & TV should not be submitted along with the application form of Advertising and PR.
  • Candidate should fill all the necessary columns of application form. The candidate should put his name, address, details of his qualifications and parent’s details.
  • He should also affix the application form with his recent photograph in the given area.
  • He should also give his specimen signature in the indicated area.
  • Finally the candidate should pay the requisite application fee through the Demand Draft. The DD should be drawn in favor of –
  • “Registrar of IIMC, New Delhi”.
  • The candidate should not forget to mention his name at the back side of the DD and the year of the exam for which he is applying for.

How To Apply Online Mode

  • The candidate should visit the official website of the IIMC, i.e.
  • By clicking on this website link candidate will be directed to the application form.
  • The candidate should now click on the “online filling” of application form.
  • In the application form candidate should fill all the required columns. The candidate should give details of his name, address, educational qualifications, mobile number, valid email id etc.
  • Candidate should upload the scanned copies of his photograph and signature along with the application form.
  • The candidate should also pay the requisite application fee along with the application form through the Payment gateway.

Without application fee no application form will be accepted. Once paid application fee is non-refundable. Separate application fee should be paid for separate application form.

  • In the online mode it can be paid through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card.

IIMC Exam Pattern (Syllabus)

The IIMC Journalism Exam consists of two stages. In the first stage written test is held, in which candidate’s General mental ability and General awareness is tested. In the second stage candidates are subjected to the Group discussion and the Interview round. The weightage of the written test and Interview/ Group Discussion round is 85:15. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

There is no fixed set pattern of questions in the exam. However there are certain defined areas from which the questions are put in the exam. Those areas are as follows-

  1. Language ability.
  2. Analytical & Comprehension skills.
  3. Aptitude.
  4. General Awareness – Social history, Social developments, recent polity and economic developments and international development. 

In the IIMC Exam for Advertisement and PR, in addition to the above mentioned areas Brand awareness and recall is added. Check below-

The IIMC entrance exam is scheduled to be held in 19 cities across all over India.

 Admit Card

Candidates will be issued admit card online. It can be downloaded online from the official website. The admit card contains the name, roll number, address of test centre and date and timing of the exam. Without admit card no candidate will be allowed to enter the centre of the exam.

Result Declaration

The final merit list is prepared on the basis of the combined score of the candidate in the written test and the group discussion / interview. The final list of successful candidates is declared in the month of July-August.
