ICSI CS Foundation Exam

The ICSI CS Foundation 2019 exam will be held on 8th June. This is the first stage of the ICSI Company Secretary programme. Qualifying the CS Foundation programme is mandatory to appear in the other two stages - ICSI CS Executive Programme (second stage) and ICSI CS Professional Programme (third stage). As per the Institute Company Secretaries of India official website, “Admission to the CS course is open throughout the year. Examinations are held twice a year in June and December.

Who Is a CS?

A Company Secretary plays a pivotal role in various organisations. He is a corporate planner and strategic manager, an expert in security laws & capital market, governance and corporate laws. He is also a chief advisor to the board of directors ‘on best practices in corporate governance’. The service area of a CS can include ‘Corporate Laws Advisory and Representation Services, Management Services, Financial Market Services and Corporate Governance & Secretarial Services’.

ICSI CS Foundation Exam 2019 Pattern & Syllabus

The CS Foundation examination will be held in online mode. There will be 4 papers asking objective-type questions. In total, candidates will be required to answer all 50 questions carrying 100 marks. The duration of the test is 90 minutes.

Candidates appearing in the June 2019 exam can rely on the practice test available on the official website. The practice test helps the aspirants get familiarised with the exam environment.

The ICSI CS Foundation programme duration is eight months. However, students can complete the course within a period of 3 years from the date of admission.

ICSI CS Foundation Exam 2019 Eligibility

The CS Foundation programme is the first stage/ course of Company Secretary. Here, we have furnished information about the eligibility criteria of the ICSI CS Foundation programme.

  • Interested candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) exam from a recognised Board or an institute recognised by the Central Government
  • Equivalent students of Commerce, Arts or Science stream (excluding Fine Arts)

ICSI CS Foundation Exam 2019 Application Process

The registration of ICSI CS Foundation programme is conducted online. However, before proceeding for online registration, students must possess the scanned images of the following documents.

  • Signature of the candidate
  • Photograph
  • Roll number (if appearing in 10+2)
  • Date of Birth certificate (10th pass certificate)
  • 12th pass certificate/ marksheet
  • Category certificate (if applicable)

Ensure that the documents should be in JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG (file format), 5 MB (file size), signature size (10 KB to 20 KB) and student photo (20 KB to 50 KB)

ICSI CS Foundation Exam 2019 Application Form Filling Process -

  • Visit the official website of ICSI
  • Select the ‘Students’ tab and click on the ‘Student Registration’ link
  • In this stage, select the checklist of documents as per the requirement/ applicable based on the qualification of the candidate (mentioned below)
  • Proceed to Registration’
  • The next step involves choosing the ‘Course Type’ as ‘Foundation’ stage
  • Enter the details as asked
  • Complete the ‘Make Payment’ process (credit card/ debit card/ net banking or bank Challan system)
  • After successful payment, the candidates will receive the username and password in the registered email ID within 24 hours of payment
  • Use the link sent to the registered mail to upload the documents (keeping the prescribed size, format, etc.)

  • Access the official website of ICSI (http://www.icsi.edu)
  • Choose the ‘Online Services’ button
  • Use username and password for log-in
  • Select the ‘Students’ tab and click ‘My Account’
  • Then choose ‘Manage Account’
  • Under the ‘Manager Account’ option, there is a tab called ‘certificate details’. Click on that to upload documents
  • Details will be checked and verified at Directorate of Student Services. The application will then be approved if there is no discrepancy in the form. In case of any, the concerned candidate will be intimated about the same through email and he will further be asked to complete the requirement within the deadline.

How to Claim/ Reimburse the Application Fee?

The candidates can, in due course, ask for a refund of the application fee if they successfully complete all three stages of the Company Secretary exams. However, it is up to the Institute whether to reimburse the amount or not. It will consider the performance of the students in all 3 stages, i.e. Foundation, Executive and Professional. Only the eligible candidates will get a refund of the application/ admission fee.

After verification of all the documents, the Institute will then dispatch study materials directly by post from its main stores.

How to Download e-Identity Card/ Registration Letter?

The registration letter or e-identity card can be downloaded from the authorised website of Institute of Company Secretaries of India after approval of applications. The following procedure can be taken into consideration to download the registration letter –

  • Visit CS Foundation official website.
  • Use the log-in credentials to access account
  • Choose the ‘Student’ option
  • Select ‘My Account
  • Under ‘Student’s Account’, choose ‘Others’ and download registration letter/ e-identity card

The Identity Card or Registration Letter should be attested by any of the underneath authorities. Ensure that the seal must carry the name, designation, professional membership No. and address.

ICSI CS Foundation June 2019 Admit Card –

The admit card for June 2019 Foundation programme will tentatively be issued in the last week of May or in the first week of June. It will be issued online at the authorised website of ICSI. The hall ticket will carry details such as the name of the candidate, exam date and timings, venue, etc.

For December 2019 exam, it will be released in the third week of the same month.

ICSI CS Foundation 2019 Result –

The result of the Foundation course for the June session will tentatively be released in the month August 2019. It is important to remember the Registration Number. The result will be announced on the official website in the form of a merit list. It will carry the names of the qualified candidates. The merit list will contain the roll numbers, ranks, names, etc.
