Important Notes:

  • General English and General Studies common to both IES and ISS will be subjective type.
  • All papers for IES will be subjective type.
  • Statistics I and II will have Objective Type questions.
  • Statistics III and IV will be the descriptive type with both short and long-type questions.
  • The question paper will be set in English only and the answers should also be given in English.

Part II - Interview

The structure of interview will not be that of a strict cross-examination but a general conversation on his subject related topics. The aim of the interview will be to test the mental qualities and problem-solving capabilities of the candidate.



UPSC IES/ISS Exam 2018 Eligibility

Age Limit

Must have attained 21 years of age and not attained 30 years of age as on 01 August 2018. In other words, the candidate should be born between 2nd August 1988 and 1st August 1997.

Educational Qualification

  • For Indian Economic Service, a candidate must have a Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometric from a recognised University. Candidates who are appearing/appeared (result waiting) for the above degree are also eligible to apply for the exam.
  • For Indian Statistical Service, a candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with any one of the subjects Statistics/Applied Statistics/Mathematical Statistics OR a master’s degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Mathematical Statistics from a recognised University. Candidates who are appearing/appeared (result waiting) for the above degree are also eligible to apply for the exam.

UPSC IES/ISS Exam 2018 Application Process

Candidates can apply for the exam through the online mode only. Here are the steps to fill the application form:

  • Go to official website.
  • Click on the link for online application.
  • On the screen that appears, click on the registration link in front of the exam. The registration would contain two parts. The application form will be complete only when both the parts of registration are complete.
  • Enter the details asked for. Check all the details carefully before final submission. Please provide a valid email ID as it will be used for communication by the Commission at different stages of the examination process.
  • Upload scanned images of your signature and photograph in the pre-defined format. It is advised to keep the scanned images ready beforehand.
  • Make application fee payment and take a printout of the confirmation page.

It is advised to fill the application fee well before the last date to avoid any last minute rush.

Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay ₹ 200/- (Two Hundred) as application fee using net banking facility of SBI or using Master/Visa/RuPay/Credit/Debit card facility. The fee can also be paid through offline mode by depositing cash at any SBI branch.

Female candidates and those belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories will be exempted from the fee payment.


Other Details

UPSC IES/ISS 2018 Admit Cards

The e-admit card/e-admission certificate will be issued by the Commission three weeks before the commencement of the examination. Candidates have to download the e-admit card from the official website, www.upsc.gov.in using registration ID and password. Please note that the admit cards will not be sent by post.

UPSC IES/ISS 2018 Result

As per the official notification, the result of UPSC IES/ISS written test has been declared on 11 September 2018. After the declaration of written test, the successful candidates are required to appear for the interview process.
