The State Bank of India, the biggest recruiter of special officers and probationary officers, conducts Specialist Officer Examination to select skilled candidates for its various branches across India. Recently, the public sector banking and financial services company have sought online applications for SBI Specialist Officer Exam. Interested candidates are advised to log on to the official website of State Bank of India (www.sbi.co.in) and submit their application form before the last date - March 20 to April 21, 2018. Earlier, the last date was April 7, 2018.

The recruitment will be for the following posts both on the contractual and regular basis - Special Management Executive (Regular), Deputy General Manager (Law, Contractual), Deputy General Manager (Law, Regular) and Deputy Manager (Law, Regular).

Details of Post:

  • Special Management Executive: The candidates will be hired on regular basis. There are total 35 vacancies. The minimum and maximum age of the candidate should be 30 years and 40 years respectively. The selection process comprises shortlisting and interview.
  • Deputy General Manager (Law): For this post, the candidates will be selected for both contractual and regular basis. For contractual, there is only 1 opening. And for regular, the number of opening is the same i.e. 1. The applicant must be between 42-52 years old. The selection process involves shortlisting and interview.
  • Deputy Manager (Law): The recruitment procedure for Deputy Manager is little harder than the above three posts. There will be written test followed by face to face interview. The nature of engagement is regular. The aspirants between 25-35 years of age are suitable for the position. There are total 82 vacancies.

SBI SO Exam 2018 Pattern & Syllabus

SBI Special Officer 2018 Pattern:

Exam Pattern for Deputy General Manager (Law, both regular & contract) and Special Management Executive: SBI will keep a check on the applications received and will shortlist them on the grounds of experience, suitability and qualification. After the shortlisting procedure, the candidates will be awarded marks out of 50, and on the basis of that, they will be called for direct interview. The State Bank will select suitable candidates from the top merit rank list from each category.

Exam Pattern for Deputy Manager: The candidates will be sent for written test, followed by face to face interview. The written will be done in three subjects – Reasoning, English Language and Professional Knowledge. Reasoning will have 70 questions carrying 70 marks, whereas English Language and Professional Knowledge will have 50 questions each (carrying 50 and 100 marks respectively). The total duration of the exam will be 135 minutes. The exam is scheduled to be held on 6th May 2018.

SBI SO Exam 2018 Eligibility

The eligibility criterion varies from posts to posts. An aspirant must meet the eligibility criteria for positions that he is applying for. Let’s have a deeper insight into this -

Eligibility Criteria for Special Management Executive (Regular):

Educational Eligibility: The candidate must have done 2 years PGD in Finance or CA/ICWA/ACS/MBA in Finance. If he has done the course through correspondence or part-time from any unrecognised institute, he is not eligible. The duration of the full-time course should not be less than 2 years. Make sure the education centre is approved by AICTE or Government bodies.

Post Qualification Experience: He must have 5 years post qualification experience as an Executive in Management/Supervisory role – a) In a Scheduled Commercial Bank/ Associate or Subsidiary of a Scheduled Commercial Bank; b) In a Public Sector or listed Financial Institution/ Company. Having experience in processing of credit proposals is highly preferred.

Age: The applicant should be between 30-40 years of age.


Eligibility Criteria for Deputy General Manager (Law, Contract):

Educational Qualification: The competitor must hold a Degree in Law (3 years or 5 years) from a recognised varsity.

Post Qualification Experience:

  • Advocate with Bar Council with minimum 17 years of experience as Law Officer in the Legal Department of Scheduled Commercial Banks OR Asset Reconstruction Company OR Financial Institutions OR combined experience as Law Officer in the Legal Department of Scheduled Commercial Bank and Asset Reconstruction Company and has extensive experience in Recovery & Rehabilitation.
  • All these experiences will be valid only after enrolment as a lawyer with Bar Council.

Age: The minimum age should 42 years. The maximum age should be 52 years.


Eligibility Criteria for Deputy General Manager (Law, Regular):

Educational Qualification: The applicant must hold a Degree in Law (PG preferable) (3 years/5 years) from a well-known university.

Post Qualification Experience: Advocate with Bar Council with minimum 17 years of experience as Law Officer in the Legal Department of Scheduled Commercial Banks or in Scheduled Commercial Banks holding Assistant General Manager (Law) post. He should have minimum 3 years of experience as an advocate with Bar Council.

Age: The candidate must meet the age criterion – 42 years minimum & 52 years maximum.


Eligibility Criteria for Deputy Manager (Law, Regular):

Educational Qualification: The applicant must hold a Degree in Law (PG preferable) (3 years/5 years) from a well-known university.

Post Qualification Experience: He must be having 4 years of experience as Law Officer or Advocate in the Legal Department of Scheduled Commercial Banks. He must be enrolled with Advocates with Bar Council.

Age: Relatively young, the age limit for this post is 25-35 years.


SBI SO Exam 2018 Application Process

Before filling the online application the applicants must have valid email ID, documents like ID proof, recent photograph, experience certificates, proof of DOB, resume, PWD certificate and educational certificates and credit/debit card for online payment of the fee.

Guidelines for Filling Online Application Form - How to Apply?

  • Visit the official website of State bank of India and register yourself through the link shown on https://www.sbi.co.in/careers or https://bank.sbi/careers.
  • Upload scanned photograph (20kb-50kb) and signature (JPEG) with ideal size and format.
  • Fill the form carefully and submit it once it is filled-in completely.
  • You will need to pay the application fee by credit card, debit card, internet banking, etc.
  • After the application is submitted successfully, take a printout of the same for future reference.

Note: At any point in time if an applicant is not able to fill the application form and submit in one go, he can do it later by saving the page. By doing this, he gets a system generated provisional registration number and password. Candidate must keep the registration number and password safe, and edit particulars and submit next time. This facility of saving information and filling the application can be done for 3 times.

Remember, you can submit the application form until 21st April 2018.

Application Fee:

Candidates belonging to General and OBC category are required to pay an amount of ₹ 600/-. For SC/ST/PWD category candidates, the amount goes down to ₹ 100/-.

Call Letter for Interview:

Call letter for interview or intimation for written test will be sent to the shortlisted candidates through the already given email ID.

Note – No hard copy of intimation letter will be sent.

Important Points & General Information:

  • The application for SBI SO exam can only be filled online.
  • The registration will be considered valid only after the payment of fee via online mode.
  • All the documents (experience, qualification, age, caste, etc.) should be correct. Failing to provide correct details will result in rejection of their candidature.
  • If an applicant is called for interview but found his/her eligibility unsatisfactory, he/she won’t be entertained for the interview. The reimbursement of their travelling expenses will not be entitled.
  • If two or more candidates secure same marks as the cut-off marks, such applicants will be ranked as per their age in descending order.

Q: I hold Degree in Law through correspondence. Will SBI allow me to submit the application form?

A: Though you can submit the application form, you will not be shortlisted. Only candidates who have Degrees in regular from recognised university India are eligible for SBI SO.
