Don’t Ignore the First Paper

We know that we are discussing the tips to crack the exam through Computer Science exam. But, this is the foremost requirement for qualifying the UGC NET exam. Many students just focus on their subject paper and ignore the first paper. However, you need to qualify both the papers for qualifying the exam. Thus, ignoring paper-I is a strict no-no. So, while preparing your time-table, do give time for Paper-I preparation. Studying 1 hour daily for the paper will do the needful.

Understanding the Syllabus

Moving on to the subject paper, the first step is to check the syllabus and understand it. Getting familiar with the syllabus will help in avoiding unnecessary studying. UGC has recently updated the syllabus for each subject. It is available on the official website. The syllabus will include topics from your master’s syllabus.

Categories the Topics

After getting familiar with the syllabus, categorise the topics as per priority. In other words, you can mark the topics which you are familiar with and those you find difficult. Now, you know for what topics you need to prepare more. So, make a time-table accordingly.

Solve Previous Years Question Papers

We would suggest you solve the previous years’ questions papers before moving ahead with time-table preparation. This helps in identifying the important topics (frequently asked or topics with most questions). Now, when you will know the popular topics, you can focus on them and prepare the time-table accordingly.

Some important topics for the Computer Application are Data Structure, Algorithms, C++, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Software Engineering, Automata (TOC), Computer Organization, Digital Electronics, and Graph Theory.

Other topics with less weightage are - Computer Graphics, Soft Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Compiler, Current Trends and Technologies.

Make a Time-Table

Now that you know the important topics, draft the time-table accordingly. Do not forget to include time for Paper-I. Include breaks in-between study sessions to refresh your mind. Follow you time-table with complete dedication without skipping a day of study unless you are sick.

Make Notes

While studying any topic, make notes of the important points related to the topics. This will help in revision, which is very essential. You can go through these notes any time when in doubt. These notes are also handy while doing the last minute revision.

Buy Books - Not Many But the Best

We don’t’ recommend to buy a lot of preparation books and make a pile on your study desk. Almost all the topics in the UGC NET syllabus are from the Master’s degree syllabus. So, study the topics from your PG books only. Another way is to get a library membership and get books to study various topics. You can buy only one or two best books available in the market and study them properly.

Solve Sample Paper and Appear in Mock Tests

This is the most important part. If you do this, you will be 50% prepared for the exam. Solve as many sample papers and previous years’ question papers as you can. Appear in mock tests for improving speed, time-management, and accuracy. The exam is conducted online so the mock test will help in getting familiar with the pattern. You can see repeated questions in the UGC NET exam, so it is beneficial to solve the previous years’ questions paper.

Apart from all these preparation tips, stay calm during the exam. Do not rush into answering any question. Read the question carefully before marking your answer. Though there is no negative marking in the exam, do not mark the answers in a hurry.
