Good News! NTA to Offer Free Coaching for JEE Main, UGC NET and NEET

Last Modified: 20 Apr 2024

Good news for JEE and NEET aspirants especially for those facing financial constraints for exam preparation – the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be offering free coaching services from next year. As of now, NTA is establishing a countrywide network of 2,697 Test Practice Centres (TPCs) which will help students from rural areas to practice before the exam. In a recent reform, the Human Resource Development Ministry has set up the National Testing Agency for conducting entrance examinations such as NEET UG, JEE Main, UGC NET, etc. These exams were earlier conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.

NTA will convert its 2,697 TPCs into coaching/teaching centres from next year. As told by an official from NTA, till now, 2,775 schools and colleges have shown their interest in becoming a Test Practice Centre. The official source said, “We will finalise the centres soon. The links provided right now on the official websites are only for trial run.”

As per an MHRD official, “The plan is to take these centres beyond just practice tests and turn them into teaching centres. They will not charge any fees and so will be especially helpful for talented students from sections where aspirations are high but private coaching is impossible due to financial constraints”

Steps to register for slots at the Test Practice Centres

Aspirants who are interested in appearing for the practice tests at the NTA’s test practice centres are required to register for practice slots. Registration can be done through NTA’s official website or mobile App. The registration link on the official website and the mobile app will be made available on 1st September. Here are the steps for registration through the official website:

  • Go to the official NTA website - https://nta.ac.in/.
  • Click on ‘Student Registration (For Practice Center)’ on the home-page.
  • Complete the registration process and book your slot for a practice session.

Along with slots registration, the mobile app will also help the aspirants to locate the closest TPC.

About NTA Practice Tests

The practice tests will help the students to understand the exam pattern. As per recent Press Release of NTA, “The TPCs will have a downloaded Computer Based Test (CBT) which will be similar to the actual test to be conducted on the exam day. The practice tests will help the candidates to familiarize themselves with logging into the system, going through the detailed instructions regarding the test, using the mouse or numeric keyboard on screen (virtual) for attempting each question, scrolling down to the next question, navigating between questions, reviewing and editing their options and submit questions.”

As per HRD statement, “All tests would be set in a scientific manner with the test items developed jointly by the subject matter experts and psychometricians. Before developing the question papers, the item writers for the exams will be given feedback on the functioning of the previous years' items so that they are able to make test items which are more valid and reliable. All the above-mentioned examinations will be held in existing number of languages”

The Practice Centres will start functioning from 8th September. Candidates will be able to use the facility free of charge on Saturdays/Sundays.

The online registration process for the JEE Main I 2019 and UGC NET December 2018 will begin on 1st September. The registration process will continue till 30th September. NTA will also other exams such as NEET (UG), CMAT, and GPAT.
