Check Your Eligibility For The JEE (Advanced) 2018

The IIT Kanpur has released the JEE (Advanced) 2018 eligibility criteria. A candidate should check this list of criteria before applying for the exam. Some changes have been introduced in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam. An applicant should update herself/himself with these latest changes.

  • Only those candidates who rank in the top 2, 24,000 list of the successful candidates in the JEE Mains 2018 will be eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced 2018).
  • JEE Advanced 2018 will be conducted only through the online mode. There will be no Pen and Paper-based mode for any paper.
  • The fee for the JEE (Advanced) 2018 has been increased in view of the GST imposition.

GATE Eligibility Criteria –

Criterion 1- Nationality –

An applicant can be Indian, PIO (People of Indian Origin), and OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).

Criterion 2-Age Limit –

  • An applicant belonging to the General Category should be born on and after 1st October 1993.
  • Relaxationof 5 years is given to candidates belonging to the Reserved Category (SC/ST, and PwD). It means they should have been born on and after 1st October 1988.

Criterion 3- Educational Qualifications

  • A candidate should have appeared in the Class 12th or equivalent exam for the first time only in the year 2018 or 2017.
  • If a candidate who has appeared in the Class 12th or equivalent exam in the year 2016, but its results were declared after June, then he/ she is eligible for the JEE (Advanced) 2018.

Case"A candidate who has appeared in the Class 12th exam in 2016 and its results were declared before June, but the result of the particular candidate has been withheld by the board, then such candidate is not eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam".

Criterion 4- Number of Attempts –

A candidate is eligible to appear in this exam only 2 times in consecutive years.

Criterion 5- Some other specific eligibility criteria–

Conditions that are not accepted -

An applicant should not have taken admission in the IITs earlier.

  1. Even if, a candidate has discontinued the program after admission.
  2. Even if, a candidate has not reported to the reporting head after accepting the seat allocation in the IITs.
  3. If a candidate’s seat has been cancelled by the IIT after admission, then also such candidates are not eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam.

Such candidates are not eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam.

Conditions that are accepted–

After paying the seat acceptance fee -

  1. Those candidates who did not report to any reporting authority of the IITs at any of its centreare eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam.
  2. Those candidates who withdrew before the last round of the seat allotment process are eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam.
  3. Those candidates whose seats were cancelled before the completion of the last round of the joint seat allocation by the IIT authorities in the year 2017, such candidates are eligible to appear in the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam. They must fulfill other eligibility criteria mentioned in (Criterion 1, Criterion 2, and Criterion 3 Criterion 4 and Criterion 6).

Criterion 6– Top Ranked 2, 24,000 candidates

Only those candidates should who qualify the JEE Mains 2018 exam and stand in the top 2, 24, 000 are eligible to apply for the JEE (Advanced) 2018 exam. Out of this list of 2, 24,000 candidates, seats will be reserved for them as per the Reservation principles –

  • OBC (NCL) -27%.
  • SC – 15%.
  • ST –7.5%.

Remaining 50.5% for all categories of candidates.
