BTech Courses at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology: Eligibility and Admission Process

BTech Programmes at SMIT (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology)

  • B Tech Mechanical Engineering (ME)
  • B Tech Computer Science Engineering (CSE)
  • B Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)
  • B Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
  • B Tech Information Technology (IT)
  • B Tech Civil Engineering (CE)

Eligibility Criteria for Admission in BTech

  • Aspirant, who has passed (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Computer Science/Biotechnology/Biology, as one of the optional subjects.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% (and 45% for SC/ST/OBC category) marks in aggregate.
  • Candidates, who have a diploma in the appropriate branch/stream of engineering awarded by a State Board of Technical Education are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% (and 45% for SC/ST/OBC) in aggregate in diploma for admission.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination (class 12th final examination) are also eligible.

Entrance Exam for Admission in B Tech

Admission to B. Tech courses at SMIT of Sikkim Manipal University is done through:

  • SMIT Offline Test
  • MET (Manipal Entrance Test)
  • JEE (Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency). Candidates must note that SMIT does not participate in the JEE Main counselling. Seats are allotted on the basis of JEE Main scores under General, Defence, North East, Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) and Sikkim categories.

MET

Candidates who don’t appear for the JEE Main can take the Common Entrance Test for Technological Institutions of Manipal Group for admission to B.Tech. courses.

SMIT Offline Test

  • Students, who are not able to get admission through above-mentioned entrance exams, can appear for the SMIT offline test. Students will have to appear for offline written test, conducted at various centres by SMU and get qualified.
  • This year 2018; the SMIT test will be conducted on 29th April; students seeking admission in the B. Tech should be prepared accordingly.

Admission to BTech Programmes through Lateral Entry

Admission is also done to BTech programs through Lateral Entry i.e. direct admission to the second year of the programmes. Those having three years’ diploma in any branch of engineering with minimum 60% marks (General)/ 55% marks (SC/ST/OBC) are eligible for lateral entry. Also, candidates with B.Sc. (Mathematics as one of the subjects) with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/OBC) are also eligible.

Along with B.Tech., the Technical campus also offers other programs such as M.Tech., MBA, MCA, M.Sc. (IT), BBA, BCA, and B.Sc. (IT).
