9 New Scholarships, 2 Awards for Undergraduates – IIT Kharagpur

IIT Kharagpur (KGP) has confirmed various new scholarships as well as awards for undergraduate (UG) students.

25^th July 2018: IIT Kharagpur recently announced new awards and scholarships for the benefit of the undergraduate students. These new awards and scholarships are for research and academic purposes.

In a press conference held yesterday, the institute stated that thanks to the donations by alumni and corporate, it has initiated two awards and nine new scholarships for UG (bachelor’s) students. Both of these schemes will come into effect from this month onwards.

According to Subrata Chattopadhyay, Dean, Alumni Affairs at IIT- Kharagpur; the existing scholarships at the institute focus on the lower cut-off for students with weak financial backgrounds only and because of this, students who belong in the marginally higher categories are not able to meet the criteria.

He said, “Given the cost of living, even these students need some sort of financial support and hence the institute has increased the threshold of the current family income up to ₹ 10 lakh and ₹ 15 lakh per year for different scholarships to accommodate more students”

Keeping in the mind the increase in the basic cost of living, this initiative by IIT-KGP is extremely delightful for students. This proposal will definitely allow more and more class 12th pass outs to opt for admission in IIT Kharagpur.

The press statement released by the institute also assured that it will also be funding research for undergraduates for more upcoming years from its endowment fund built out of alumni donations. The institution will basically use the interest and earnings from the fund for the betterment of the students and the institute as a whole.
