IIT Kanpur Released Eligibility Criteria For JEE Advanced 2018

IIT Kanpur has released the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2018. Candidates are required to fulfill all five criteria.

29 October 2017: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2018. The good part is - as compared to JEE Advanced 2017 - more candidates will be eligible to sit for next year’s exam. The number of candidates who will be considered to appear in JEE Advanced 2018 has been increased to 2,24,000. IIT Kanpur has released 5 criteria for JEE Advanced 2018 and the candidates need to fulfill all of these.

Here are the criteria as announced by the exam conducting authority:

I. Performance in JEE (Main) 2018

Candidates have to be among the top 2,24,000 (including all categories) in JEE Main 2018 Paper-I.

 * The total number of candidates can be more than 2,24,000 in case of rank tie.

II. Age limit

A candidate’s date of birth should be 1 October 1993 or after this date.

A relaxation of 5 years is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates. Their date of birth should be 1 October 1988 or after this.

III. Number of Attempts

A candidate can appear in JEE Advanced for two times (maximum) in consecutive years.

IV. Appearance in class XII Board

  • A Candidate should have appeared in class XII board or equivalent examination (for the first time) in the year 2017 or 2018.
  • A candidate needs to meet any of the two criteria for class XII score:
    • Must have secured a minimum 75% aggregate marks in class XII board or equivalent examination. For candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD categories; the minimum aggregate marks are 65%.
    • Must be in the top 20 percentile of class XII board examination.

V. Earlier admission at IITs

In case a candidate have been admitted in any IIT earlier irrespective of whether he has joined the program or accepted the seat by reporting at the time of counselling, he will not be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2018.

The JEE Advanced 2018 exam is scheduled to be conducted on 20 May 2018.
