Untrained teachers appointed under the Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan gets 2 years deadline by HRD Ministry to complete B.El.Ed or D.El.Ed.
21 August, 2017: The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry said that untrained teachers teaching classes from I to VIII have to go through teacher training for which the ministry has provided a deadline of 2 years till 2019.
The HRD Minister said; "Teachers who have not done D.El.Ed course but teaching classes 1 to 8 under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan have been given last opportunity to become qualified in two years."
A Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Friday that offers teachers training for untrained teachers till 31 March, 2019. The teachers are required to acquire B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education) or D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) in order to save their jobs.
This was done via an amendment to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2017 will now have to pass through the Rajya Sabha assembly after which Presidential consent will make it an Act. This is the last opportunity for 11 lakh teachers appointed till March 2015 to acquire the minimum qualification required for teacher’s position by 2019.
For education expansion under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the RTE, many schools came up. Many teachers hired were untrained for teachers’ position. So, they were given a time period of five years to get necessary qualification. Many have done it but still approximately 6 lakh private schools teachers and 2.5 lakh government teachers did not qualify the minimum requirements. “As a last chance, another two years are being given to them with this amendment”, the HRD Minister said.
