IBPS Clerk Exam

Every year thousands of candidates are selected in the public sector banks on clerical posts. The IBPS conducts the common clerical entrance exam known as IBPS Clerk Exam, on behalf of participating public sector banks to select suitable candidates. The official notification for the IBPS CWE Clerks VII is out. The exam will be conducted in December 2017 and January 2018 for the vacancies of the year 2018-2019.

About the IBPS

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Board has been conducting the IBPS clerical exam on yearly basis since 2011. The IBPS clerical 2017 exam is the 7th exam to be conducted by the IBPS; hence the exam is named as the IBPS CWE Clerks VII. Now it is mandatory to qualify the IBPS CWE (Common Written Exam) to get selected in any public sector banks including regional rural banks of India.

The IBPS is the reorganized form of PSS (Personnel Selection Board) which was established in the year 1975 to select candidates for various posts in the public sector banks. The IBPS took over the functioning of PSS in 2011.

About IBPS Clerical 2017 exam

There are 2 levels of the exam-

  1. Preliminary exam
  2. Mains exam

A candidate is required to qualify both the levels of the exam to get finally selected for getting job in the participating public sector banks.

It should be noted that there is no interview process after the mains exam. Candidates are selected on the basis of their marks scored in the mains exam. It means various banks will use the marks of the candidates scored in the IBPS CWE exam while selecting candidates for the job.

The application process for the IBPS clerical 2017 exam will start from 12 September. The exam dates have been published which are as follows-

● Preliminary exam will be conducted on 2nd December, 3rd December, 9th December and 10th December 2017.

● Main exam will be conducted on 21st January 2018.

Eligibility for IBPS Clerk Exam

1.      Educational qualification

●       Candidate should have done his or her graduation in any discipline from a recognised University.

●       English should have been one of the language either on 10th, 12th or on graduation level.

●       Those candidates who have done their graduation or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised institution under the central government are also eligible to appear for the exam.

●       A candidate should have proof of passing the graduation exam.

2- Age limit

A candidate should not be less than 20 years of age and should not be more than 28 years of age.

3- Nationality

A candidate should be a citizen of India.


IBPS Clerk Exam Admission Process

Candidates can fill the application form online. They should visit the official portal of the IBPS exam.

Steps to fill the application form -

  • A candidate should first of all visit the official portal of the IBPS. Here they should click on the IBPS CWE clerical 2017 exam.
  • A candidate should get registered on the portal. In order to get registered a candidate should provide his or her basic details like name, address, date of birth, email id and phone number.
  • Once a candidate gets registered, a login ID and password is sent on his or her email ID and phone number.
  • With the help of login ID and password a candidate can access the application form.
  • A candidate should fill all the necessary columns of the application form with the requisite details.
  • Candidate should also upload the scanned copies of his or her photograph and signature in the given size.
  • Along with the application form a candidate should also pay the application fee to complete the registration process.

Exam Pattern of the Main Exam

Those students who qualify the preliminary exam are required to appear for the main exam. The main exam is also conducted online. There are 190 questions of 200 marks in the main exam. There are 4 sections in the exam. The total duration of the exam is 160 minutes.

Admit card

The admit card will be issued by the authorities 7 to 10 days prior to the date of examination. The admit card will be available online. Candidate can download their admit card from the official website of the IBPS. Candidate should login on the official website of the IBPS and click on the Admit Card section. They would be required to fill certain details like registration number, name and date of birth. After entering these details the admit card of the candidate​will be displayed. A candidate should take out the print and not forget to carry the admit card on the day of examination.

Result declaration

Soon after the mains exam, results would be declared. The final result will be prepared on the basis of the marks scored by the candidate in the mains exam. The cut off marks​varies every year. It depends upon the number of applicants, number of vacancies and the level of competition in the exam.
