Preparation Tips for SSC Exams (Section-Wise)

Preparation for SSC exams requires dedication and an efficient study plan. SSC conducts exams for different posts and the syllabus and pattern for all posts are different.  However, a few sections are common in all the SSC exams.  These sections are:

  • Quantitative Aptitude
  • Reasoning Ability
  • English Grammar
  • General Awareness

So, here we are providing some preparation tips for each of these sections.

Quantitative Aptitude

Most of the students find this section the most difficult as it involves lots of calculations. If you will keep note of the following points while preparing for this section, you will find it easier.

  • Clear the basic concepts. This will help a lot in solving any type of questions from a topic. Having a powerful grip on the basic concepts will let you solve the complex problems.
  • Learn the trick to do the calculations quickly.
  • Learn all the formulas and tables.
  • Practice questions on quantitative aptitude daily.
  • Check out previous years’ questions papers to know the type of questions, frequently asked topics, etc.

Reasoning Ability

Reasoning ability is a scoring section if you know all the tricks to solve the questions. Here are some preparation tips:

  • Solve the puzzles and seating arrangement questions first. Read questions carefully without assuming any information. Practice as many puzzles as you can at the time of preparation to gain speed.
  • Also, don’t waste much time on a puzzle if you are unsure of the answer.
  • Answer the questions you are sure about.
  • Learn some tricks to solve the questions faster while preparing for the reasoning section. Learn by practising and not mugging up.
  • Some popular topics in the reasoning section are coding-decoding, direction test, blood relations, seating arrangements, syllogism, etc.

English Grammar

  • Practice comprehensive reading daily.
  • Read the newspaper to improve reading speed, vocabulary, sentence formation, etc.
  • Work on the grammar rules.
  • Learn synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, etc.
  • Appear for mock tests.

General Awareness

This can be the most scoring subject in the SSC exams if you are prepared well. You just need to know the correct answer; there is no calculation involved. Here are some tips to prepare:

  • Read the newspaper daily to stay updated about the current affairs.
  • Check the syllabus for General Knowledge topics and prepare them well.
  • You must have a strong knowledge of the last 6 months of current affairs from the exam date.

After the section-wise tips for SSC exams preparation, here are some more tips on how to start the SSC exams preparation. You can apply these tips for any SSC exam (or other recruitment exams for that matter).

Tips to Start the SSC Exam Preparation

The above tips are provided for preparing for different subjects of the SSC exams. Here we are covering some general tips to start the exams. These tips will apply to all the exams covered by SSC.

Know the Syllabus

No matter which SSC exam you are appearing for, understanding the syllabus, as well as the exam pattern, is the first thing, to begin with. Candidates must have a clear idea of all the topics covered in the syllabus so that they don’t study any irrelevant topic. Also, the knowledge of exam mode, question type, number of questions, marking scheme, etc. will help in streamlining the preparation.

Prepare a Study Plan

Once you know the syllabus and pattern, make a study plan/ time-table for covering every section of the exam. Make sure you study for all the sections daily as consistency is the key for retaining. Also, keep breaks between the study sessions and take out time for revising what you have studied a day before.

Refer to Good Study Material

Search for some good study material; you will easily find expert recommendations online. Do not refer to more than one book at a time for a subject. It will create confusion. So, stick to a book per subject or go for the exam preparation books which cover all the sections.

Solve Previous Years’ Question Papers and Appear for Mock Tests

Solving previous years’ question papers is definitely the best practice while preparing for any exam. It gives you an idea about the difficulty level of exam, types of questions asked from a particular topic, how a similar question can be asked in different ways, commonly asked topics, etc. Solving previous years question papers will also give you an idea about the level of your preparation. You can also appear for online mock tests which will improve your speed and accuracy.

Revision Courses/ Online Coaching

If you are not interested in joining a regular coaching class for the SSC exams, you can register for revision courses (after completing the entire syllabus) or join online coaching. These courses are of short-term duration and help you with the revision, tricks to solve complex problems, how to score high marks, etc.

For cracking any of the SSC exams, candidates must have confidence and self-belief to achieve their goals and dedication to put their best efforts in preparation. We hope that the SSC Exam Calendar 2021 will help you in knowing the schedule for different exams and start your preparation right away. The schedule or more 2021 exams will be updated once announced by the Staff Selection Commission.
