Previous Years’ Written Ability Test and Group Discussion Topics At IIM Bangalore

Last Modified: 14 Apr 2024

The Written Ability Test (WAT) has become the important part of IIMs selection process. Before moving ahead with the IIM Bangalore’s previous years’ WAT and GD topics, let’s understand the selection criteria of the institute. We are listing here the latest admission process followed by IIM Bangalore for 2017-2019 batch.

IIM Bangalore follows a two-phase selection process:

I Phase

A merit list is prepared on the basis of candidates’ score in the Common Admission Test (CAT). The candidates shortlisted are called for the second phase; Personal Interview round. When candidates receive a call for PI round, they also receive a form to fill which includes question such as:

  • Past academic record
  • Work experience
  • Describe your job responsibilities
  • Why a career in management?
  • Why IIM-B?

Be honest and straightforward while filling up the form.

II Phase

The second phase includes the Written Ability Test (WAT) and the Personal Interview round. In WAT, scores are given on the basis of your writing style and quality of content. So, include strong and logical points. Be clear about what you are writing. The time given to complete the essay may vary from 15 to 30 minutes. Find tips to score good in the Written Ability Test (WAT).

After the WAT, PI round is conducted. The interview panel may consist of 2 to 4 persons who are experts in their own field. So, the first tip is to provide true and clear answers. Sometimes, the interviewer asks the next question from your last answer. Remember the form you have filled in when you got the call for interview, it will be used to ask questions as well (that’s why we suggested to give honest answers in the form.) Don’t feel surprised if you get questions from your WAT write up.

We have suggested some points to answer the most common questions asked in the CAT Personal Interview (PI) round. You can check out them here.

We expect that the same selection procedure will be adopted for the upcoming session. If any changes are introduced, we will update it here. So, keep visiting.

Now that you understand the IIM Bangalore’s selection procedure, get the list of previous year's GD and WAT topics and start your practice.
